I'm ashamed to admit this is the first time I've visited the Kauaeranga Valley. Only just over an hour's drive away. We'll definitely be back - it's beautiful. We saw people fossicking for rocks further down. Google tells me it could have been for quartz and agates. The area is an old gold mining one
