Everyone approaches these steps with caution! I have run up them many times but seldom down! When they are covered with fallen wet leaves it is almost impossible to remain upright! That of course is the best time to photograph them, so I will try again later in the year.
Any normal local authority would have covered them with warning signs or even forbidden access, but this is Machynlleth!! - pronounced, as nearly as I can get it without going into great phonetic detail, MAK UN KLETH. It's inhabitants are generally likley to take responsibility for their own actions and don't look to blame someone else when things go wrong!
Apologies to Megsy, Dominique, AutomaticSlim, Mags and Worthon. This is a high resolution version of the photo that you have already posted favourable comments on. In changing over I have deleted you posts for which I apologise. I do of course appreciate your words and thank you
@soboy5 Many thanks - yes they are something those steps. No one believes the Romans built them and even question whether there was a Roman settlement nearby! Then again no-one seems to know who did carve them into the rock!
@bdb3471 Thank you Brian. I have looked up those steps so many times and thought there was a good photo in them. I have tried a few times before but this is the most successful. I wish I knew what I did different this time!
@mstipe Yes Michelle, I spent a very happy 11 years living there, but I am still only 16 miles away so I often visit. (Memo to self: take more photos there!)
And, I like that community. I wish more were like that!
