Lonely Lioness by zambianlass

Lonely Lioness

This lioness has a sadness in her eyes. Her tummy is huge with cubs which should be born any day. She is part of a small pride and had just worked so hard to catch a buffalo.

The male lions always eat first and despite her doing all the hard to catch lunch, and her pregnancy, she has to wait for the males to have their fill.

The life of a lioness in Africa...
A beautiful portrait. Fav!! πŸ˜€

How do you manage a photo like that, is it with a Telephoto.

@jelley_baby she was only a couple of meters from me so no fancy lens needed.

July 11th, 2020
@aikiuser she really does. Poor thing. She was obviously hungry as she tried to eat before the males were done and they really went for her

Thank you all so much. You guys are great

I was in a car. As long as you remain in the vehicle you can get quite close without the lions minding. They tend to see the car and not the tasty meal inside the car 😜 @stimuloog @olivetreeann

@jacqbb @santina thank you. They are amazing creatures. We are so lucky to be able to see them in the wild here.

@shepherdmanswife Hehe I had my twins with me when I took this. Maybe she was looking on at the chaos in sympathy, knowing she’d soon have her babies climbing all over her too.

@zambianlass Haha, πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

I hope you got to watch this going on in a wildlife preserve and not your backyard! So I guess you are saying the King of the Jungle would starve it is wasn't for his significant other? πŸ˜„
July 12th, 2020
@skipt07 hehe yes - I was under the close supervision of a wildlife guide :-) and yes the Kings of the Jungle really are quite lazy... they will pitch in if they think their Queens are going to let dinner run off but they don't flex their muscles very often... ;-)
