The summer seaweed in Emsworth is horrible. It is slippery, smelly and slimy. It clogs boat engine filters, looks unsightly and gives me the heebie-jeebies if I handle it.
However it provides a sesonal ecosystem with cover for fish, crustaceans and bugs which are then hunted by the little egrets and gulls.
I did wonder about how to crop this (it's totally sooc) but was loathe to lose the ripples at the bottom. I don't like the balance of the shot where I cut off the fisherman's torso, but cropping him a tad to lose the bouys and boats at the top looked more wrong.
I like the reflection of the fisherman. I think just a teeny amount off the top - just to around the fisherman's waist. It will take out the hint of the buoys on the right and the sliver of shadow on the left.
I like this as it is, kind of nice with just his legs and oar and boots. Lovely colours, though like you I would get the heebie jeebies from handling that weed! Bad memories of having it wrapped around my legs on one of my few swimming attempts on the Norfolk Broads!!
I so often have a similar situation where either head or feet are missing ;-( Iwould have chopped his belt off. The rest is wonderful, a great shot ans lovely reflections.
I remember we had a work party on a weekend a couple of years ago to get rid of the weed by the beach. A bit like Canute, the weed will go when the weather changes. Lovely colours.
