Down and Out, Picked and Indoors

Practising a whole new skill with this shot, back-button focussing. Really not sure if I like it, but am assured by camera club buddies, I won't want to go back to half-press on shutter release again.
Beautiful punch of color and love your POV, Jackie.

A stunning capture Jackie, wish I knew what that means 😉

I too don’t really know what that means, but it certainly created a lovely shot!

Beautiful flower and great pov.

Nice shot. I've been meaning to try back button focusing myself. A lot of aviation photographers seem to use it.

Hi Jackie. I read up on this "back button focusing" It sounds so useful, once you get the hang of it. I'll really look forward to seeing what you do with it. This one is a lovely start - like your border too.

Cool shot and I am looking forward to trying this technique. I learn so very much from others here in 365.

Like that. Back button focussing is really good. Means that the camera is locked on the subject. Without it I wouldn’t get the Kingfisher shots I do.
October 17th, 2018
@padlock I like the being locked bit!! Thought of you yesterday as I was trying to get shots of goldcrests! I got lots of the yew tree no birds! ( Wrong camera )

@30pics4jackiesdiamond What IS back button focussing?
October 17th, 2018
@casablanca instead of half pressing the shutter to focus, you press a button on the back!!! All our camera club veterans swear by it!! and @padlock too.

Advantage is you set the focus and it stays set, unlike using shutter button, where it defaults and has to focus again.

I'm off to try to get red squirrels at the weekend ( they'll probably start hibernation today so won't see a single one!) and apparently BB focus will be advantageous, so am practicing. I Googled my camera, as there are no details in the handbook. It is getting easier to do, club people tell me Pentax button in an uncomfortable position ( but they're all biased towards Canons!)

@30pics4jackiesdiamond Looking at my camera and having no idea what the button is, so I shall get my manual out and try to find it! Thanks xx

@casablanca if your camera is a compact, and not a DSLR, which I think it is looking at your photo details, may not be available for you.

I am amazed at how clever our cameras are, were holding minicomputers in our hands!!!
October 17th, 2018
@30pics4jackiesdiamond I have two - one is a compact Olympus (my handbag camera!) and my main one is a DSLR Nikon D3400. It has plenty of buttons on it, it's just figuring out which one and how to do it LOL!!
October 17th, 2018
@casablanca me too!!!, compact goes every where with me.

There maybe a button an back labelled AF or AEL?? That's it!! You could always ask the wonderful 365 community for helping advice!!
