The groyne appears to have a quantity of bladder wrack. We used to 'pop' the seaweed's ‘beads'. A different era...sigh!

Oh my, your narrative reminds me of that depressing book by Nevil Shute "On the Beach." The complete destruction of life on earth apart from one lonely person after nuclear war. I think I need another G&T.......
