Gaia; Light of Our World

In Greek Mythology Gaia is the personification of the Earth. This rotating seven metre globe features NASA images of the Earth’s surface and marks 50 years since the moon landing of 1969.

The installation by Luke Jerram has been on a world tour and is floating beneath the spire crossing of Salisbury Cathedral.

This photo will give you an idea of the scale of the installation and as it's my turn to uplaod to The Darkroom today, I've put another version up there!
Wonderful refraction in that glass!

I found myself slightly surprised to see an exhibition to Gaia in a Christian cathedral! The idea seems incongruous somehow. Fascinating piece of sculpture. I like the huge scale he uses.
