I think it's the fact that the trees reduce in height from left to right. Increases the idea that it is sloping.
Which reminds me of an old and terrible joke:
Did you hear about the fella who got some waterskis for Christmas but never used them? Couldn't find a lake with a slope. Boom Boom.

@casablanca haha! but I agree that it's the trees/light triangle of water that interferes with the eye and suggests tilt
