These rivers are vital for sustaining diverse river, meadow and land eco-systems, and us humans!
Houses are being flung up all over the county but water requirements are not taken into consideration when planning permission is granted. As soon as the house building starts the water companies, by law, have to supply water and drainage. We are draining our beautiful rivers and the chalk stream aquifers dry. Our summers are hotter and drier, but water demand for life, fun and agriculture are increasing.
Lovely. I learnt to swim in this river. There were strong currents and we were told as children that it was dangerous to go in the river. It was a swim or drown challenge. Fortunately many of us survived!!!
This is beautiful in b&w. I love the softness and reflections.
If there’s room on that soapbox I will happily join you. We have very similar problems here.
Beautiful shot! I don't understand it... They tear down as many houses as they build around here. They build them crammed/jammed next to each other where you can spit in your neighbor's yard. Literally packed like sardines in a can. I don't even want to imagine the septic/sewer systems and what they're doing with those.
Water use and aquifer depletion are a problem over here also. Thank you for posting this lovely picture and the link to the info on the Hampshire chalk streams.
@4rky it's a fabulous little garden too @haskar many thanks ( still not seeing in BnW yet!) @mcsiegle the streams are so pretty @yaorenliu I read we'll be fighting wars over water in three generations @randystreat it is soft ? camera shake? @narayani it's a lovely river, but always cold apparently @dutchothotmailcom too many people needing housing @marlboromaam pumping it into the sea, laying the fines and charging us more ( so we pay the fines!) @ljmanning I'll budge up for
you... @joansmor thank you @grammyn this scene is probably unchanged for centuries who knows in 100 years?? @shutterbug49 only when it's too late @wakelys it does look deep in parts, how lucky to swim in this pristine wster
