This is Julie. She was sat among the columns of the Royal Exchange sketching the urban scene of Threadneedle Street. She's been a member of an urban sketchers group for 18 months. They meet fortnightly, but she can only attend monthly. Her favourite place so far was Brompton Cemetery and she showed me some of her sketches. She's a very accomplished artist.
That's a lovely portrait of this kindly looking lady. Just as a complete aside Jackie - I fear we Aussies may have bastardised your English language. Your sentence "She was sat...." is something that you would never hear over here. The concept that she was there but is no longer there seems to have disappeared. I would bet a million dollars that any Aussie would say "She was sitting... " Interesting isn't it - And I've only noticed it since being on 365... Cheers Rob
I really like the perspective of this. You do such a great job of finding people and engaging with them to get their stories and then your fabulous portraits of them.
I agree with the others - lovely portrait and how skilled you are or have become at chatting up strangers in order to get them to agree to a portrait photo.
Lol Jackie - I was not meaning to criticize your grammar!! :)
I was a science maths teacher who accidently ended up teaching a lot of ESL students. I was supposed to teach them science and maths and help their English skills. The "real" ESL teacher tried to point out all the various tenses and when and how they should be used - my maths brain just closed up shop!! I would quite happily believe that "was sat" was what it should be and that we had just gone Ocker with our terminology. :)
@robz I noticed the ‘was sat’ too and asked Mr Google, one link said that was sat is an older form, Middle English and another link said that was sat is British but more slang.
@kjarn Hi Kathy - Rob here - I don't really know if this is acceptable or not - I feel I am taking over Jackie's post!! But I did want to thank you for your input into the " was sat" conversation. Your search produced 2 interesting suggestions - thank you very much. And Jackie - my apologies for heading off on such a tangent. :) Cheers Rob
