Spiro-Photography

Remember Spirograph? It took me loads of failure to get 3 decent shots in the two hours of camera club this evening. I learnt about Bulb setting, revised the physics of the pendulum, had a number of failures (I'm blaming jet-lag!), learnt that SD Cards have a speed (mine's very slow to write!) and we laughed a lot.

As ever in our camera club- no-one was 'the' expert. We used what we'd picked up from WWW and assisted each other to move on from failures We will celebrate our successes on FaceAche and move on to learning something new next meet-up.

This positively swirls on black
This is lovely, really cool pattern.

@farmreporter here's what I did!!!

Tripod on longest highest legs, balanced on three tables!
Taped over torch bulb to get small spot of light
Taped string onto torch, tied string to underneath tripod made a pendulum
Placed camera directly underneath dangling torch, my LCD screen will pivot out , so that helped me
Focused on light. Set bulb setting 1.5 minutes - seemed about right after failing at 30-60 seconds

Covered lens with a photography magazine ( lens cap should suffice, but I mislaid it in the dark)
Swing torch ( remember to turn it on, one of us didn't!!) Wait for wobble to stop. Turn off room lights, press shutter release, remove magazine covering lens. After 50 seconds, covered lens and swung torch in a different direction, uncovered lens again.

Room needs to be pitch black, and there were 8 of us in one room doing this together, so some light pollution did happen

Some stuck drawing pin into ceiling to get longer string and swings but I valued my lens too much to trust that!! No accidents happened with falling torches ( just spilt coffee!)

It was a real hoot to do, I learnt so much more about my camera's settings, co-operation, and learning from failing in such a friendly, safe way!! Get you camera club to give it a go, none of us had tried it out before so the blind led the blind I the dark ( with guidance from a variety of www sites!)
