Jane Austen's brother inherited Chawton House and permitted his sister to live in a house down the road on the estate.
This time of year the gardens are open for the snowdrops, which may have have been exotics in the garden in Jane's day.
An interesting read about the house and family here they also have a delicious tearoom!!
I've missed an open garden up here which 'may' have been as good as this (but without the history) - except it wasn't advertised so I don't actually know!!
Fascinating historical information provided by the link. It’s amazing to me to be able to visit a place that has such a long heritage.
