The iPhone, my camera of choice, is not particularly well suited to do wildlife photography, but I try anyway. This little guy skittered across my path this morning, then stopped in the undergrowth. Amazingly, he or she stayed still a few feet away from me as I took its portrait. I would shoot a few frames, then inch closer, until I was about 3' away. If you look closely, this critter appears to be missing the tip of its tail. This doesn't surprise me. Yesterday, I was having coffee on our patio after my morning walk, when an enormous roadrunner flew across our backyard with a lizard in its beak. It can be tough to be a lizard. This place never ceases to amaze me.

Nice shot - interesting colours and scales. These creatures regrow their tails, it’s such an amazing defence mechanism! But they do look a little strange and half-bodied what with their tail missing.
