On August 22 2015, a vintage Hawker Hunter jet crashed mid-display during the Shoreham Airshow; it exploded into a fireball on the busy nearby A27, killing eleven men.
A memorial of eleven uniquely crafted steel arches has been installed to honour the lives of the eleven men. Each arch is a tribute to one of the men who died. Some arches bear the name of the man they have been created in honour of, some feature discreet personal touches referencing the interests of the person the arch represents, including music, trains, basketball and animals.
The memorial sits on the banks of the River Adur near the crash site and close to Shoreham Toll Bridge, which became a focal point for mourners and the local community in the aftermath of the disaster. Beside the memorial, a bench overlooking the river provides moments of tranquillity for visitors.
in photographic terms, the colour shot shows much more detail of the decoration of the arches.
Avery interesting design, but what a powerful memorial - once you've told the story.
