In the days when there was a sugar mill in town-now long gone. A display was put up at the local Agricultural show

why are the fields burnt? Or is that the reason sugar cane farming came to a halt

@mittens @wendyfrost @ninaganci @jacqbb @merrelyn Well I had to look it up to see why they burn the sugarcane before harvest!! I always thought it was to remove the snakes when it was hand cut. but no! its to remove the outer leaves around the stalks I have never seen a field alight. the reason the mill closed down I believe was the price of sugar collapsed. Thankyou all for your interest
