Decadence by Swazzette

Decadence

Ahhhh...nothing reflects decadence better than Hearst Castle. We spent two days touring William Randolph Hearst's dream "ranch" atop the mountains in San Simeon and still didn't see everything. Begun in 1919 and finished in 1947, it is an architectural phenomenon. I had wanted to experience this place since first reading about it when I was a kid...and I was not disappointed. It was a magnificent spectacle of excess...but its beauty is not to be denied. The art that filled each of the 165 rooms was breathtaking and the two pools (this one is under the tennis court) were amazing. Do not miss this place if you ever make it out to Los Angeles or San Francisco (it's located along the coast between the two).
i have seen it, but i was young, don't think i appreciated it. i mean they won't let you swim in the pool!

I, for one, would like the opportunity to get used to that type of lifestyle!

Unbelievable! Great photo of an obviously unique place. I googled it too and the first sentence in wiki was: 'not to be confused with Hurst Castle, Henry VIII's fort near Portsmouth, England' - it being half way across the world and looking like this http://www.ministryofpropaganda.co.uk/blogimages/20080217-hurst-castle-railway.jpg - I don't think that's too likely ...

How the other half live(d) ...

Beautiful shot of an amazing place. My husband and I went twice on a trip up the coast (coming and going) because it was too much to take in on 1 visit. This is a beautiful capture of the mood of this space.

A split second, and I thought, "That's *my* picture! Have stood in that same spot to capture that beauty! Can't wait to return again one day...one can never really absorb all there is to see on one or two visits! Very excited to see our little Chicago circle on Friday. Sorry Chimom can't make it, but we'll, of course, send her a lot of pictures! (I'm sure H-E got your note, but I'll ask when I see her this afternoon)
