Elephant Seal Beach by Swazzette

Elephant Seal Beach

Stopped along the California coast to observe a whole passel of elephant seals sacked out on the beach. These lovely(?) creatures spend six to eight weeks beached here while shedding their fur (molting). They do not eat the whole time and try not to extend much energy other than to lift a fin now and again in order to cool off. Some never even venture into the water until they are all ready to head north to Alaska to mate and eat, eat, EAT!
Fun! There is a small nudist beach near Santa Cruz that is also host to some of these seals. Sweet irony!
