It might be hard to believe, but I look forward to going to the dentist every six months! My dental hygenist, Erika, on the left, and the receptionist, Christine, are the dearest "girls"! While 20 years my junior, we've become great friends over the years. They always schedule my appointment so it's the last before lunch and we can go out to eat together. Their boss, my dentist, Dr Mortensen, is just the nicest man...I had a picture of the three of them, but sorry, it didn't make the cut. Instead I wanted you to see the great smiles he's made for us over the years!
This evening we went out for Mexican food with Judee & Helen & had some great music & Margaritas to go with our dinner! I'll post those pictures on Shutterfly shortly & tack it on here... http://365daysintheyear.shutterfly.com/385
Try as I might, I couldn't get all the way through the comments everyone so sweetly left for me today. I like to return the favor, but I see already I'm starting to run short of time. Bear with me, and I'll do as much as I can... If you see me here, maybe an "adult" should step in and tell me to get back to my packing!
I saw a great A.A. Milne quote the other day... Never forget me, because if I thought you would, I'd never leave.
Very nice smiles :) The staff sure makes a difference to the dental experience. Until I found the one I go to now, I hated the dentist. Now, I wouldn't say I enjoy it, but I don't have the anxiety going that I once had :)
Hey Louise, Thanks for the sweet comment and remembering me.... I know I have been absent...Life seems to have caught an express train. Although I have not stopped taking pictures but sadly have very short time to upload and write.. Will be back soon thanks for the encouragement.
Great story and great smiles. Why doesn't shock me that you became good friends with the office staff? Hmm. :)
FYI: I responded to a discussion topic you posted to Louise on what happens after you reach 365 photos. I noticed you mentioned you got the ace membership so you could get a picnik collage. Another option might be to build a mosaic. I posted a sample up today for you here: http://365project.org/lintbrush/365/2010-05-06
I won't forget you, either!
You want to hear something funny...I went to the dentist today, too ( well, yesterday now, I guess! I'm up waaay too late ).
And when I got home, I had a phone call from MY best friend, who was supposed to meet me for dinner tonight, as well...but she'd had an emergency marathon session with her dentist and wasn't feeling up to it.
We are SO in sync. ;-)
I've never seem anyone so happy to be at the dentist office! That is amazing. It made me smile to see you all smiling! Who is Ellen? I don't know her but I'd love to get together when you return to SoCal!
Im smiling too:) I love my current dentist-shes a personal friend- but I still put off seeing her professionally. As someone who gets fairly regular migraines I try to avoid any other pain in the head.
oh louise, i really love the way you keep this project as a photo-diary, this is real-time! it's always great to see you happy and always smiling! you are fortunate to have great friends, too!
Great smiles...my dentist is responsible for my nice smile too. The only thing about going to the dentist that bothers me is the cost!!! I don't mind going...but I drive my dentist crazy b/c I prefer to have all work (root canals, crowns, whatever) done *without novacaine* ...It's not that I'm afraid of shots (they don't bother me either) but I hate waiting for the numbness to wear off so I much prefer to have a short burst of pain here and there than put up with the novacaine after effects...so I guess this is a layer of the onion that people normally would never know bout me...nor probably care but since we are talking about dentists I thought I'd throw that tidbit in...or and in case anyone else wants to try a root canal without novacaine, I recommend using Lamaze when the pain kicks in...hahaha...
Good luck packing, Louise. When you told me you were flying and not driving I wondered how in the heck you could possible go away for that long with just a couple suitcases. I would have to have a wagon train!
And finally, thanks for your nice comments on my Maasai tribesmen photo page. I don't know how it happens but I do seem to get in the middle of a lot of things like this (hosting visitors from other countries but that is what makes life interesting!
no idea where your off to Louise but have a great time & take care... as for Karen & the dentist boy is she a tough cookie , No injection before dental work that's going back to the wild west Karen ... lol ...
I work at a dentist's office. It's makes me happy to see you enjoying going to yours. We have patient's that love coming to see us and it makes our day. We have one patient that insists on bringing us a cake every time he comes. Even if it's more than once a week!
Looks like you're taking care of all of your last minute chores before "hitting the road." although you're demonsta=rating for all of us that YOU can even make "chores" fun! What a shining example you are of how to live one's life ...
get packing .. oh wait u wanted adult to tell u lmao !!!
now look at that , not everyone can tell me they get to become great friends with their dental friends. U attrach ppl everywhere u go dont u !!! its that leo thing !!
Great smiles =) You are just about the most positive person I've come across with, Louise. There someone in this site that I follow and his name is Trent...he takes photos of post-its stuck on different things and he writes quotations or his own words on them. On one of the post-its, he wrote, "sometimes, i like my internet friends more than my real life ones..." and you know what, that's so true when it comes to you =)
Oh Louise, you are just so unique. Who in the world loves going to the dentist? And then going to lunch with the girls who work there who have become your friends? I find that so amazing and wonderful. You just spread joy everywhere you go! It's contagious! I've always loved that A.A.Milne quote ...
Louise, I love that quote!!! I'll never forget you, be sure about it!! ;-)) Lovely photo and beautiful smiles!! I am sure more dentist would like to have happy patients like you!! I used to dread the dentist's office, until I found a lady who works on my teeth with a smile and always makes me feel good. Now I can't wait to go back home and see her again (Hopefully, I won't have too many cavities and we can go right to the lunch part! ;-)
Wishing you a day filled with irises (so happy my photo brought you joy!) and beauty!!!
@ Karen: No novocaine (er, lidocane)? You must be of a different species than me. How does your dentist manage not to wreack havoc in your mouth when the pain kicks in and you flinch?
@Louise: Lunch with other people is the last thing I want after a dentist appointment...but I guess you're probably just referring to cleanings ;) But your dentist's crew looks and sounds very nice!
And as far as the farm is concerned - the books "The Omnivore's Dilemma" and "Fast Food Nation" have some interesting things to say about how our food industry got to where it is now. Sadly, they don't provide much in the way of solutions for getting back to a more sustainable form of agriculture on a more global scale.
LOL - you love going to the dentist!!! Wow you are so lovely, those smiles are smashing! I hve rubbish teeth and need major orthodontic surgery to sort them out, I've never been rich enough or brave enough to have it done! Would lpve a set like those on display. Thanks for your comments on my page yesterday, reallt appreciate you taking the time in you pre-vacation rush. Don't worry, I won't forget you! ;-D
Wonderful photo Louise! What beautiful smiles! And thanks again for reminding me it was my 100th photo it's so fitting with the Navy centennial homecoming statue. Have fun packing! :)
I see what you mean - the ads were supposed to be serious, but the fallen lady is so funny, it's hard not to laugh!! She'll definitely beseeing the grass sideways!! ;-)) Somebody actually went through the trouble to remix the ad:
(Louise--I'm wearing the pin to work tomorrow and the turtle will sit on my desk at school!! :) The card will be on my bulletin board by my desk until the end of the year --and I told miranda what you said to tell her--she smiled!! )
Thanks for telling me about Steve posting a remark on your page about my crazy dental habits!!! We follow each other so I will go and comment over on his page!! Men are such babies, aren't they...hahahahha....
Thanks for the sweet comment on my abandoned idea----------I have sea shell all around the house and it occurred to me that they were someone's home a long time ago. I stopped buying shells many years ago when I realized how much life was lost when the shells were harvested with little regard for the inhabitant! I do love to find them along the shoreline though :o)
Oh, you set an example for everyone no matter what you do in life, don't you? I must admit that I, too, "dislike" going to the dentist. In fact, there's not a dentist out there with enough charisma to make me want to see him twice a year!
However, I think your's is terrific and I look forward to seeing his work (your smile) in person this coming Monday! :-)
Excellent smiles all 'round! How cool that you're all friends, too. I love my hygenist and dentist as well. In fact, they've cured my fear of going to the dentist, which is saying quite a bit!

Someone out there helped you keep those beautiful smiles!

I really admire you, Louise.

Poor Life Alert people...Not the best ad campaign for them, but i guess it actually made them popular!!
Thank you so much for sharing this!!! ;-)) Now I view my photo in a totally different light - "I've fallen and I c-c-c-c-can't get up!" ;-))
However, I think your's is terrific and I look forward to seeing his work (your smile) in person this coming Monday! :-)
