This afternoon I visited my daughter, Heather, in her store, Green Genes, in Andersonville (Chicago neighborhood). She brought up a photo on her computer of a baby pig and told me the lady who owns him is going to be a few blocks down the street in the late afternoon. Seems she owns an Organic Meats Farm and sells from a truck... Who am I to question this... Ken and I walked down there, and to our delight, she was fine with us picking up the 5-day old runt piglet! Seems he was born Friday in a litter of 11, but was too small to get proper nourishment. The couple took him into their home to care for, and I overheard her saying they let him sleep in their bed. ...I only report it as I hear it... Surely they're going to let him survive to a ripe old age...
I ordered fish for dinner tonight...
Crystal, piggy's owner wrote me and they['re at C & D Family Farms in the Chicago area...she sells meat at Berwyn & Clark street by Starbucks in Andersonville. She said she'd be delighted if I shared the info. (Also, she confirmed that she *does not* sleep with the pig in her bed!)
I took a lot of pictures of everyone around the table last night. I've labeled a lot of my picutures, but will finish tidying it up when I have a little more time... http://365daysintheyear.shutterfly.com/
We fly out tomorrow and won't get to Halifax until quite late. Pains me not to be able to post a new picture tomorrow night. I'll get back in step as soon as we're settled! See you soon from Lunenburg!
That is the cutest piglet ever. The story makes me think of Wilbur in "Charlotte's Web". I hope you and Ken have good flights tomorrow and that the day passes quickly.
Aw, what a sweet little baby! I'm sure little "Bacon" appreciates that you ordered fish...What a fun group of 365 folks! Wish I could have hopped on a plane and joined you...Max is super soft with his new haircut - by the way, the grey that you see is actually his very short fur (not skin)...He likes to make strong fashion statements (with the boots)...Looking forward to your next post!
I've been a piscatarian (SP?) since I was about 8 and dont even have memories of what meat tastes like but looked after a couple of pigs one christmas called 'tasty' and 'scrumptious'.
This is too cute and a wonder photo! Louise, I'm going to eat nothing but broccoli and carrots for the rest of my life... with some bread and cheese maybe.
Awww too cute! Love that little piggy! I am mostly piscaterian (?!) but I end up eating meat for convenience, P & B are ultra carnivores! D seems to take after me & just eats fish by choice, well doughnuts & popcorn really given the chance! Safe journey, look forward to seeing your Canadian pictures! ;- )
you and your animals! love the picture, love the title!
My folks once raised a runt (named him Pork Chop) and said that by the time he reached 400 pounds (?) he was just another pig ... they never let him sleep in their bed, however! LOL!
Oh Louise what you wouldn't do to see and hold this cute fuzzy head.
this is as close as i have ever come to a baby pig. nice of you to go and see the lady with the truck and of course she had the runt with her. thanks for sharing this with us. see you in a few days on 365. have a good flight.
Louise, this is a wonderful photo. You know my love of all creature----big or small----and this photo warms my heart! You look like a natural :o) Have a safe flight and I look forward to your next picture!
Baby pigs are sooo cute! My parents used to raise them when I was a teenager. It was awful at the time - you know...a teenager girl on a small pig farm was a little embarrassing. But they sure are cute!
And Morteza is back. He's making his usual sweet comments that I have a little trouble understanding the meaning of because English is his second language. His posts always make me smile though, and I always appreciate them!
He has such a sweet little face. I think I would have named him Babe.
When I was a kid, some friends of ours put on a giant breakfast party. Everything was ok until someone told me that the sausage came from their pig. I knew that pig and there was no way I could eat it after knowing him. I would hope that after getting to know this pig (and letting him sleep in their bed!), that they spare him.
Goodness!!! Don't you two make an adorable pair! Photogenic doesn't seem to cover it. You just exude warmth and kindness. No wonder you have such a massive following. =)
BTW, you could change your name to Louise & Ken since you seem to do a fair job of splitting the photo duties. =)
My mom has a pet pig...just a tad larger at 200 lbs...named Porkahantas. Pork for short. She rescued her about 6 years ago. I got to visit the pig farm last summer and made a friend in a pig named Bacon. Bacon would flop over like a dog and beg to be scratched. Who am I to refuse? I have a great picture. Someday I'll "cheat" and post it up here. This is a great picture!
well Jojo did tell me you said something, I was so excited. I've been working now and I feel so busy that I just haven't put the time into posting anything and once I am home I'm not ready to be on the computer all over again. I haven't seen anything about anything.. I'm outta da loop!!! I hope your flight situation works out. I always get excited even if it doesn't go right cause I know I'm about to have a great adventure. I'm sure you feel the same. I can't wait until we can have a So. Cal. get together! I'll be more settled. See, I'm already writing from work... ssssshhh, don't tell!
Oh trust me you will have pics for the 6th and 7th show at Angel's Stadium :-) Sorry for your delay, but I'm glad we are here to keep you amused while you wait...... And I will keep my fingers crossed that you will be sleeping in the dark :-)
Who knew bacon could look so stinkin' cute?! :) Love the commentary and title that goes along with this shot, I was rolling with laughter. :)
I'll be thinking about you and hope you have a safe flight! Roberto eh? hahahaha if Bob could blush, he would be blushing right now. Thanks so much for your sweetness today!
Oh Louise, this is the most adorable picture ever! Awwwwww .... how sweet. Can you imagine letting a pig sleep in your bed? Gotta love anyone who would do that.
When I see how many comments your photos elicit, I know how you will be spending your summer vacation! I notice Ken is no longer just an honorary 365-er. Will he be writing commentary as well? It will be fun to have his perspective on the world! Have a safe flight and will look forward to your pictures from NS.
CUTE picture....and your caption! I laughed when I read it! IT'S PERFECT! I can't wait to see pictures from NS. I am so excited about this... One day maybe I will visit it... You never know! And I love the idea that you have added Ken to your project. Such a good idea! :)
Oh, he's squealy, squealy cute! What a ham! (not you, him.) Why am I not surprised that you'd be able to find yourself a little animal while here in the big city. Ha! Glad you had a real swine time during your visit and so looking forward to seeing you both again soon. Have a great flight! When pigs fly....maybe this little guy can go with you next time! Hogs and kisses! :-)
You should have seen the size of some of the pigs at our agricultural show.... couldn't get a decent picture.... will try tomorrow. Love the way that you've become Louise and Ken!
adorable!!! ahh!! i try not to eat pig type meat now. they're meant to be smarter than dogs! i'd never be able to go full vegetarian though. especially with lasagne as my favourite food :P
First of all...this is hilarious and adorable at the same time!
Practice makes perfect, Grandma! ;-)
Secondly, yesterday, I said you looked like you were happier than a pig in s**t, and low and behold, you find a pig to pose with!
And, thirdly, I think your name change is all wrong!
It should be "Grandma Louise and Tom"
Heh. ;-)
Louise, that is so ADORABLE!! A real cute baby pig in a blanket!!! It looks so fragile, and cute and ...piggish!!! ;-))) A 'fav', no doubt!! Loving your pictures, they always make me smile!!! ;-)))) Whol else will pose with a baby pig and looks so sweet???
3 years ago, while visiting my grandmother in mexico, her pig had little piglets. well she gave one to me and i named it peanut, but i left it there because i don't think customs would've let me bring it back to the states, and i honestly don't know what to do with a pig in a 3rd floor apartment, haha.
thanks for sharing all the photos! so sweet of you and Ashley, pls tell her that i should be the one thanking her because she gave me an excuse to buy baby clothes :)) i love buying baby clothes, they are too darn cute! but i have to confess that i couldn't look at my own photos in your link, i don't like to look at myself i guess, i think i look terrible :) no more photos of me :))
so cute Louise!!! I have been MIA for the past week and a half for school and basketball so I need to catch up with all your pictures!!!
I'm still in school sadly til June but I'm already in summer mentally! lol
I hope your vacation has been going great!!
And yes I do still see Twilight. The girl who owns him brings him to work with her all the time. He's become a feisty and fat kitty. But he's still so cute!
Bon Voyage...waiting to hear from Nova Scotia.
You are very photogenic by the way.
