Back Bay_Lunenburg , Nova Scotia

On a beautiful, mild morning, just Billy, Ken and I set out for our walk along First Peninsula Road. (John & Ashley went for a run, & David had an appointment) While I took my long lens, I wasn't overly enchanted with the pictures I took today, though this is a good representation of the morning. Ashley got a nice picture from our back yard; you might recognize where the laundry was hung the other day http://365project.org/lulu/365/2010-06-08

This afternoon I baked frosted sauce-pan brownies while Ashley kept me company in the kitchen. Billy & David joined us for dinner, and Ken grilled a delicious (family favorite) macadamia-nut-crusted plank salmon, and Billy made a salad with fennel & oranges over greens (I would never have thought of that combination!) After dinner we went up to the guys' house to watch "Alice in Wonderland" that I bought last weekend. I'm a fan of both Tim Burton & Johnny Depp and *loved* the costuming and the quirkiness of it all. We took a break midway for those brownies with ice cream. It was a nice wrap on a relaxing day of just visiting.

FYI, Richard Saffold has asked a couple of times about the weather, seeing us in sweaters and jackets. Ken joked as we walked back home tonight, we can change outfits here three times a day! Tonight it was quite cool, but we're hoping for another sunny warm day tomorrow.
beautiful scenery! great capture Louise :)

June 9th, 2010
What a beautiful little cove!
It looks exactly like the little lake that my aunt and uncle's house is on, in Sackville, NB.....very similar view of across the pond from their yard.
And those clouds!
The way they are lined up?
I don't think they could look any more perfect!

Now, there you go talking about sweets, again!
*that sound you hear is me smacking my lips!*
I'm making a cake for Brad's birthday tomorrow, Spice, like the last time...it's his favourite...because we are having my stepmom over for dinner.
She is so lonely without my dad, and won't cook for herself, so I worry about her.
She phoned me yesterday ( Monday ) and said, "Barbara.....I have been craving your father's chicken wings, and it occurred to me that I'll never taste them again, because I can't find the recipe. He never wrote it down! Just the though makes me sad all over again."
So I said..."Well, it's a good thing that you called me then, because he asked me for MY wing recipe a few times, so I bet that's what he was using!"
So, I decided to cook her some wings for dinner tomorrow ( and we can celebrate Brad's Bday ), and she can take home the leftovers.
Somewhere, my dad is smiling!
Anyway....that was a long way of saying that I am actually going to be baking tomorrow, too.
This time, I promise not to use soy sauce.
In the icing, I mean.
I DO need it for the wings! ;-)

Adore the picture - wonderful deep colours. And loving the descriptions.
June 9th, 2010
Great composition. I like how the focus is the sky & clouds while the homes anchoring the bottom of the frame give a great sense of scale. Very cool shot.

June 9th, 2010
Such a pretty sky! I've always loved those low, puffy clouds. They remind me of cotton balls. I especially love looking down on them from a plane. Maybe I should have been a meteorologist... if only it weren't for the math!
June 9th, 2010
The clouds are queuing very nicely for your picture .. lovely shot & it sounds lie you had a perfect day (o;

Thank you for the lovely compliment! We have had a busy month and I am behind on my 365 viewing! Your summer home is so beautiful and it sounds like you both enjoy every minute of it! I loved watching Alice In Wonderland. I am also a fan of both TB and JD. It was such a sweet coming of age movie as well as "eye candy"! Enjoy your day :o)
June 9th, 2010
I think I'm going to have to put Nova Scotia on my list of places to visit before I kick the bucket. This is absolutely beautiful. I love how the clouds are the focus but the perspective pulls the eye eventually to the beautiful water front.
June 9th, 2010
Look at that sky! We've been getting puffy white clouds like that too in Vermont. The weather has been great over this side of the country. I'm glad you've been blessed with it in Nova Scotia! Your adventure is making me want to visit there soon.
June 9th, 2010
beautiful shot, louise. gorgeous cloud formation. i love that i can see air, earth and water....3 out of 4 elements!!! you should've started a fire somewhere and included it in the photo as well =)

June 9th, 2010
I love the perspective on the sky... gorgeous, just beautiful!!
June 9th, 2010
OHMY! I can't believe this picture. Your clouds remind me of the clouds that I noticed a few days ago....I wanted to take a picture of it. But your picture shows exactly the same thing....on how the clouds just seem to go on forever. They are simply painted across the sky. I'm glad that you shared this picture!
June 9th, 2010

June 9th, 2010

I was thinking about joing the Ace membership. Is it a lot different than what we have with the standard account? I mean I don't want to start another album or anything. I can hardly keep up with doing one...lol

June 9th, 2010
I thought I was dropping in simply to say hi and enjoy the clouds, but now I'm hungry.
June 9th, 2010
Thanks for the comments on my Flickr stuff. I didn't buy anything from the stalls as I either didn't know what it was or knew only too well and didn't want any! I did however visit a Chinese bakery and sample some of their yummy steamed buns. I like to make it a rule to try new foods whenever I get the opportunity, especially when they are authentic and cheap!
June 9th, 2010
Another lovely shot Louise. Looks a lovely place to be. Oh, and dinner sounded delish :-)
June 9th, 2010
Sounds like a great day!! This is a beautiful picture :) I know what you mean about changing 3 times a day lol. Some days here in Massaschusetts it will be chilly, hot then chilly again!
June 10th, 2010
I love the clouds! great shot =)
June 10th, 2010
Louise, I loved reading the description of your day!! It sounds pefect to me - a morning walk, some brownies, a delicious gourmet dinner, and a wonderful movie to top it all of! Johnny Depp is my favorite - he always has those quirky roles, and he manages to pull them off brilliantly! How is the work on the roof going? I hope it's not too noisy for you and your dear guests! :-)

The Shoe we found - it was in the wall!! I can't believe that's a good sign, too! I was wondering why it would be in there, and I thought that maybe some very strong mice dragged it away! It's a kid's shoe, I'll take a picture of it and I'll make sure we put it back when we rebuilt the wall! Thank you for sharing this with me! You are so sweet! :-)

I really love your photo and the blue beautiful sky!! Lunenburg is the place to be! :-)
June 10th, 2010
Wow, those clouds are extraordinary! This shot is definitely a fav for me. Sounds like such a wonderful day spent with friends and family, and lots of delicious food. Good for you guys!
June 10th, 2010
Louise, I am impatienty waiting for your shot from today! You got me morbidly curious about those cemetery photos!

Thank you so much for that link!! I devoured the info on the old shoes! If it wasn't for you, I would have never regarded the wall finds with such importance! In Bulgaria we have folk legends about people (usually young virgins or their shadows) being built into bridges and houses for sturdiness. I would have never guessed that the shoe custom originated from there! So much more humane and interesting, though! I guess that's exactly what the people who built the house did, because Jeremy found the old kid's shoe (just one, worn out), an old baseball, an a rusty sardine can, all in the kitchen wall We will definitely put them back, to keep the custom alive!

We have no ideq when exactly the house was built, but for sure it was more than 100 years ago. The old lady who lived there, was born and spent all her life in that very same house. As he was stripping walls and taking doors out, my husband discovered that the original house consisted of only one room (what will be our guest room right now) and a celler. Later on, they built some additions, made an attick, and included a bathroom. The old wood floors under the layers of linoleum were only finished around the edges, and my mother-in-law explained that back then the people probably didn't have enough money to finish them all, so they put a rug and did just the outside part. The more we work on the house, the more pieces of history we discover. It turned out that the glass on our front door (the one I used for the reflection in my yesterday's creepy photo) is really old and you can see it is wavy and with different thickness at both ends. We are preserving it as it is, because it's a vital part of the house.

So now I am wondering will your roofers make some interesting discoveries, too? ;-))
June 10th, 2010
Dang, if you don't make me hungry every time I read your descriptions! :-)

This is a gorgeous shot. Very nice composition to feature the beautiful cloud formations.
June 10th, 2010
What a beautiful scenic shot. I liek that you cropped it vertically.
June 10th, 2010
Great capture Louise! Love the billowy clouds and water view. I found a whole bunch of lupines along the water walkways and hills, they are everywhere, lol! In the last couple of days as I have been walking I kept smelling this sweet aroma and I finally figured out it was the yellow lupines, you can see them on the side in today's picture. I hadn't noticed them there before... http://365project.org/dailypix/365/2010-06-10.
June 10th, 2010
I absolutely LOVE when the sky looks like this! This is an amazing picture. And Alice In Wonderful is such an amazing movie! Very quirky indeed. :)
June 11th, 2010
Do you use a wide angle to get this kind of shot. I really like how the clouds seem to meet the shore. By the way, I laughed and laughed when you said you could be a professional mourner. THAT is great. I've known professional pessimists but an above average mourner would be a treat!
June 11th, 2010
I love the clouds. This looks like a beautiful place to live.
June 12th, 2010
beautiful clouds! great picture
June 13th, 2010
