And the House Said, "When I Am Old, I Shall Wear Purple..."
Early upon our arrival I told you we lived in a (1888) purple house and many of you thought it was a shade of blue. No, it's really purple, and once upon a time, a previous owner loved purple enough that much of the interior is purple as well. As summer tennants, we don't have the desire to pour money into having all the paint stripped (though we did bring the kitchen floor back from purple to the original hardwood). It's something of a challenge to decorate around decidedly purple floors!
You all know there's a love affair taking place at my back doorstep. I had a hard time making him take second place, but I'm trying not to be boring. http://365daysintheyear.shutterfly.com/2251
I love that poem. And, as it's always been my favorite color, I love that you live in a purple house... inside and out! Do you find that it's really difficult to photograph purple and have it look the same as it does in real life?
oh purple floors!!!!! I never thought of painting my wood floors. ( : purple is the best color ever..... the color of royalty, peace, togetherness and stability.
I really like the perspective!! The purple floors look so inviting!! The lines lead you strainght in and say "Come on, in!" :-) I had to take a look at Dill's photo - what an amazng profile!! I can never get tired of that hansome tenant of yours ;-))
I like this shot a lot, and I have a mental image of you taking it. Louise - your photo stream is anything but boring I find it funny that I just brought up that line about wearing purple to someone just a few days ago. Hadn't thought about it for years. Funny, but not altogether surprising.
my love affair is with this house!! LOVE your perspective on this and I'd love the challenge to decorate around purple floors!!! Did you know my shiplap ceilings in the home we currently rent are painted a muted apple green. LOVE THEM and LOOOOVE this shot!
*your runner up is also just as adorable as ever and I see why it was so hard to decide! * :)
Thank you for your lovely comments on Wednesday! I'm feeling almost better now & can go to work. As for the footy, I really like it, perhaps more than my hubby! Lovely perspective here, the inside of your house looks as inviting as the outside. I love purple & yellow & the light in your house is beautiful!
Yes, I am now trained to first looks for Dill then at the photo. Neat image... I like that I shoot through the hall, through the door, into the room to looked at the framed picture. : ]
Boy do you pay attention to details, my friend! re: Kristen ... she went to HS here on Maui, was a freshman @ Humboldt State College in CA, and came to Aspen for Nique's graduation. (Fortunately, her father is a pilot with Delta!)
I love the perspective you have here and the glimpse through the door to the room beyond and that lovely patchwork quilt. I love purple, but I'm not sure I would go as far as to paint my floorboards purple! But it does look beautiful here.
am loving the sunlight that glows towards the couch, from the opened window beside it, it gives an amount of mystery just by looking at it from that door. you have taken this shot from a very startegigc angle, dear Louise. It tells a story....mystery abounds....
left a comment on your shutterfly. a very handsome looking home you guys have there as your summer home. love the purple look of it but truthfully i also thought it was blue.
Love it.... I once painted our bathroom at home purple and lilac..... quite pleasing. Purple is good and your picture is fantastic and WHERE IS THE DUST??????????? It is so sparkling clean!!!!!
I love this Louise! Why were you crawling around on the floor? Maybe you'd just finished polishing and that's why there's no dust Elizabeth!! Thanks for your thoughtful and sweet reply to my ramblings...and btw I wear purple quite a lot!
HA! I love the idea of an entirely purple house! I do understand it would be quite tough to decorate, especially because anything wood-coloured would look quite strange next to it.
I think an old house, just like an old(er) woman can get away with a lot more when it comes to "dressing." Who would dare tell her to go change her clothes! (Really love how you are now "peeling the onion" for us on your summer adventures, friends, and your home.)
OHMY! Louise! I can't believe this. Chris's grandmother who was such a strong and interesting woman said this as well. So, naturally, Chris would say it to me. I loved purple....! In fact, after we moved Chris allowed me to have a deep, dark purple wall in our master bedroom and family room. It was gorgeous! He even said it was! Then, I moved....but this house had a purple room, but not the same shade. I love seeing this picture as it really helps me to get a feel for the house and what it looks like. I also loved Dill's photo too, but I already commented on that. hehe!
I kindof like the purple and since you only live there for a season it wouldn't get too old right?! What a beautiful house you have it seems so cozy and inviting
Neat! Although, it seems a shame to paint all those beautiful hardwood floors purple! I love hardwood floors, and to cover them with something like that just seems a shame! Like my grandmother, she had beautiful hardwoods floors all throughout her entire house, but she got them all covered in carpet because my grandpa said his feet got cold! I'll never understand it. For a Korean War Vet, you'd think he could walk on hardwood floors! Lol. Anyway, great shot!
I don't think I could ever bring myself to paint floors purple (or any color for that matter - I like the natural wood) but if I had a house with purple floors I think I would love it. Enjoy!
What a nice home you have! I love the vintage charm of the woodwork. I love the perspective of this shot, too - the angle almost seems like a cat's view! Is this a nod to Dill since you didn't post his picture for the day? ;-D
i have a feeling i would love this house. not that i am in love with purple, but just because it is old and i am sure has alot of character. i always like to imagine life "back when" ...imagine those lives that lived there before. anyhooo, as always, love your perspective here!
I love the character it gives the house! I love how you got down low to give us this perspective. I also love the profile of Dill that was your runner-up.
Thanks for your comment on my vintage shot. I'm still not in love with being in front of the camera, but I'm trying to get used to it. :-)
It's a beautiful home! Such charm and character. I'm a purple kind of girl so all the rooms in my house could be puple! My hubby and son might not care for that very much though LOL.
wow i love all the color in there! i want to have the guts to do crazy stuff like that. i thought when we bought our own house i would, and there are lots of colors, but not as much as i'd envisioned. i think this would be such a fun house to live in. cool perspective on the photo too!
Hi Louise! Funny that you can see my choc. chip smiley profile pic, because I can't! I guess I had a problem uploading it and I didn't think it went through. And on my end it still hasn't showed up. Now sure how to fix that. =/
Louise, I can tell I would love your house! Love the green door and the purple floor and the fact that it was built around the same time as mine -- though mine has a more uptight feel. I could see your house in Martha's vineyard where we spend two weeks in the summer. What a fun retreat for you! It feels very summertime...
louise, thanks for the link! i LOVED looking at your pics from your 'field trip'! it looks like a really, really lovely place! and if you have never read 'evangeline' it is beautiful!!
really do love the purple though! even thought it's a challenge, what great, eclectic character it gives the house! thanks again for your sentiment re: my gigi...
It's probably pretty late on this comment list to say so, but I didn't make the quilt; I brought it up from California where I'd bought it. I do have a number of old hand-made quilts here that I found in shops or estate sales. I think they're charming, too. (no, though, I don't quilt)
I like the photo and the angle from the stairs. What a beautiful quilt on the bed.
*your runner up is also just as adorable as ever and I see why it was so hard to decide! * :)

Thanks for your comment on my vintage shot. I'm still not in love with being in front of the camera, but I'm trying to get used to it. :-)
Thank you again for your wonderful comments!
Did you make the beautiful quilt on the bed.
I do quilting too!
