I had a day filled with photo opportunities, and several times over I was sure I had my photo choice picked out. First there was one of Lunenburg's red buildings down on the waterfront. It represented the arrival of the scallop boats. At 8 this morning Ken was in line to buy 10# of scallops freshly arrived just hours before. I took a series of pictures around there and thought I had a good story to share.
Later I visited Billy's garden which is spilling over with roses and blooms of every sort. I took a photo of a flower arrangement set outside on an old table, against a wooden fence and the spilled water formed the shape of a heart (which no one had noticed until I pointed it out.)
This evening, we went with Billy & David to the Golf Course Restaurant for the Friday Wing Night, and shortly after we sat down at a patio table, I just *knew* I had my picture for today! Running underfoot was the littlest, most adorable (baby?) squirrel (!) and, with my long lens on the camera, I got some wonderful closeups as he sat nibbling on what looked like bacon bits! I was so happy and was sure my picture was set at last.
As the sun went down, I continued to get up and take pictures in all directions, but once, I shot a couple pictures from where I sat because the sky was turning pink. Back home, going through the lot, this photo came up, and I knew the squirrel would have to step aside. I loved the colors, and added "linier light" in Photoshop. I don't always know what I'm doing, but I know what I like when I see it.
Tonight I loved the colors at sunset and watching the moon rise as we drove home. I couldn't help but say how lucky I am to be living here.
LOVELY!! i made this one of my favorites, which is new to me! and i've also added this beautiful place to my list of 'where i'd love to go...' i love your descriptions though, i can almost feel like i'm already there!
Thank you! I meant to add a note that I was sad not to have much time today to respond to comments, and tomorrow, friends arrive for a 10-day visit. I feel badly accepting comments without being able to reciprocate, but I hope you'll understand! I hope to have a little time to look at some pictures as I hate to miss anything! Too many wonderful photos...too little time! In advance, thank you for your friendship & thoughtfulness!
Gee, Louise, I can just imagine how difficult it must be for you to find the shot of the day when you are surrounded by such beauty. This is a lovely choice. I especially like how you have the flowering bushes in the foreground to give a little more depth to the water scene. I think anytime you can take a photo in the mountains or near a river or lake, it can't get any better than that. I spent a few hours this afternoon down at the James River to get a couple "refreshing " shots for Saturday and Sunday...sometimes I like the themes just because you do have an opportunity to share a few pics from one photo shoot.
so gorgeous! i love the way the floweres in the forefront bring out that reddish building on the shore! such a lovely picture....you definitely make me want to go there someday! maybe you'd have a job taking photos with their tourism department?
Beautiful picture. I love the subtle differences of colors...they look like they were painted into the sky and the reflection in the water just adds to the relation feeling I get looking at it. It makes me want to hop in the car for a road trip!
You had some amazing photo ops today! No wonder you had such a hard time deciding! I love the scallop photos, but this shot is just so beautiful... so calm and peaceful. What an amazing view! It reminds me a little bit of Nantucket harbor... maybe it's the church steeple towering over the rest of the town. Gorgeous!
beautiful..I like the color and the reflection on the water..
Louise thank you for your nice comments on my pictures...we had raining these past few days...eventhough it is supposed to be summer/dry/hot season now...the weather is really unpredictable...so we could experience cold, cooler, and hot temperature in one day...and there were fogs too...
Stunning! I love these colors and how they are reflected in the water! Just a glorious shot from top to bottom!
(and, I will definitely let you know when I put up the blackberry crisp...I just put up some snickerdoodles today!)
This is a gorgeous view, sounds like another wonderful & full day. Thank you for youe comments on my page I'm much better now thank you. Please don't worry about making comments while your friends are here, this is your holiday, remember?! :)
oh beautiful.. no wonder you love it there. looking forward to our visit to Newfoundland next year .probably not as pretty as your harbour. at the moment i enjoy the hilly country here as long as i don't have to drive these narrow street always up and down and dangerous curves but my hubby is here at home and used to it.
Louise, this is stunning!!! I love the lighting, the colors, the reflection - gosh, I just love everything about it! This may sound like an odd comment but I also love that you have left a lot of sky in this shot. I think it adds to the small town feel to have the harbor area sort of dwarfed by the big, empty (but beautiful and colorful) sky.
This is so pretty! Everything about it is beautiful!
I was telling my mother about your NS pictures. She visited there in the 70's with my great-grandmother (who grew up there). She said that, yes, it really is as beautiful as your pictures show. She describes it as "gods country". I'm really getting the itch to drive up to Maine and catch the ferry up to NS. Now, I've got to convince the husband.
How wonderful view. Looks so calm and I love the soft colors.
Thanks for lovely comments. Yes, I'm currently staying at the summer house. I'm sure you'll see every little detail of it and the surroundings during my holiday. Still 4 more weeks;)
GORGEOUS! I LOVE SO MUCH ABOUT THIS I MUST LIST EVERYTHING:
The pink of the sky an dthe pink reflection of the sky on the water,
The city scape, of the waterfront with that red building leading up the hills to the steeple,
The fact that you choose to shoot it vertically rather than horizontally (which would be the obvious choice).
The beach roses in the foreground (aka rosa ragosa), I love them, they scream summer to me.
I love seeing your photos every day. i feel like i'm watching a travel special, and each shot shows me more of this beautiful place. this is just an amazing beautiful photo. i feel like i'm sitting there with you. thank-you.
what a perfect sight to look at if you want some serenity in this busy world of ours! i simply love the effect this shot is giving me, i could only sigh! thank you very much for sharing this beauty with us, Louise!
you know how hard i try on my post-processing to make the colors somewhat decent? well, i know your uploads are always sooc so this is really amazing. you've captured the colors beautifully, louise.i love it.
And this is the perfect picture to win. I love a good sunset...and the colors are so vivid. The buildings off in the distance...wow! It's just all perfect. :) It's so difficult to pick one!
It really is a beautiful place! My mum has been venturing onto 365 as just a watcher but she also mentioned the beautiful house with the purple floors and I knew it was your one!
