This photo followed a moment when I called out, "Wait! Stop! Can you turn around?! I see a picture!" I made up the name for this spot, but it seems fitting.
Today we all rode out to Blue Rocks for a morning walk, sat in the park across the street listening to big band music in the gazebo in the afternoon, and went for a sunset sail. The days are wonderfully full, but I confess, I'm wearing out! After a late dinner, my friends encouraged me to post my photo so I wouldn't be up half the night. (That said, I'm not sure they understand why I want to stay up to post a picture every day.)
I'm having the most difficult time taking pictures on these brilliantly sunny days. The contrast between light & shadow is making my photographs...well, dreadful! I was having that problem between 9:30 and 5:30 today. I have my camera typically set on "P" with an ISO 200 and +0.7 exposure. I feel guilty asking for help when I don't have time to write much, but I had a day-full of disappointing photos. In advance, thanks if anyone has a suggestion!
Happy 4th of July USA! We're celebrating the 4th by going to the Tattoo in Halifax tomorrow (military bands from across the world!). It's always just sensational with wonderfully rousing music. Fingers crossed for a respectable photo!
Ooh, I love this so much. Definitely going to fave it. I don't have any suggestions since most of my stuff is done on a trial and error basis. Maybe try different apertures or shutter speeds?
Wow, this is gorgeous!
I think I need to visit this Tranquility Bay ... or at least, a version of it!
I just got home from Band Camp, and there was some stuff going on, making me extremely stressed. But I guess I should always remember that life is longer than today. (:
Beautiful photo.
sounds like you're having a fantastic time at the moment - big band music is fantastic! and what a lovely photograph - the red of the house adds that splash of colour to such beautiful scenery.
I think this is a beautiful photo Louise. I need advice on that same question. A photographer once told me that it's best to take photos outside in the early mornings or late afternoon. You don't get the harshness of the sun then. Sometimes when I'm taking the boys photos early evening, I'll still use my flash and bounce it off of a wall or a piece of white foamcore. I don't usually have good luck with outdoor shots though. I think you've been getting some amazing photos.
Louise, on bright days, try changing your ISO to 100. That should help a bit. You probably already know this, but try to avoid shooting between I think 11 and 1, as that's when the sun is most intense. The biggest problem with cameras is their relatively limited exposure latitude (the range over which brights and darks are rendered visible). I so often think I have an awesome shot, but when I see it on screen, either the highlights are washed out or the darks are mud. Unfortunately there's not a lot to be done... I've heard using a neutral density filter can help, but I played with it a few times and never had much luck. I use Lightroom to edit, and use "fill light" and "recovery" to try to bring out what detail I can in the areas that are off. Maybe someone more technical than myself has a better suggestion. In any case, this shot is absolutely stunning and I just had to favorite it!
WOW! I love it, Louise. What a gorgeous scene. Definitely worth turning around for! That red just pops and I love how far into the distance you can see.
So gorgeous!! I say that often when we are driving LOL. My family must get so sick of me on vacations LOL.
Can you use a polarizing filter? Not sure what camera you shoot with but a polarizing filter cuts down some of the harshness when shooting on sunny days.
Thanks for the nice comments you posted about my pictures. I just hope i can get to take shots of beautiful places just like the ones in your photos. Thanks for sharing them to us. Ü take care.
Another photo worth framing...even if many are not good, the ones you are sharing more than make up for the ones that didn't turn out! Was a great idea to turn around to capture this shot! Another FAV for sure!
So beautiful...reminds me of the scenery I saw in Alaska. In fact, when I look at this, I strangely imagine this being taken in cold weather, not warm. Looks like a beautiful, crisp fall day. Maybe it's the red and fir trees. Just a beautiful shot, Louise. Glad Ken is a willing 365-enabler and agrees to get you to your location discoveries. Ha!
Wow. Realized tonight how many of your photos I've missed having my camera out of "uploading" commission for a few days. With not being able to upload and edit new shots, I really didn't spend as much time here. This is a great shot, and now I am on to see the rest of your weeks shots =)
Hey, how'd I miss this? Gorgeous. Your comment on my shot today was SO CLOSE! I's actually on the other side of the Noguchi Gardens in the parking lot of Friday's.
Your name for the place is definitely fitting. Gorgeous scene. And I would have done the same thing: yelled to stop and go back. I do that quite often with my husband as it is. He used to think I was nuts earlier in the relationship but now he's used to it.

Beautiful photo.
Reminds Rupe of a place where some serial killer might hide out .... a Robin Williams or some such.
Spiffy scene .....
