When we were watching the German band last week I noticed the juxtaposition of these churches and went back today for a photo. I used both cameras, and liked best the one I took with my P&S. Inspired by all of you who do such a wonderful array of post processing, I tried a number of Photoshop techniques, not quite knowing where I was headed. When I went to upload it, it was 17+ megabites (!) so back to the drawing board! Not so sure this is my forte, but it was fun to try!
The church in the foreground on the right is St John's Anglican, and the steeple in the background, topped by a 6' Cod, is St Andrew's Presbyterian Church. It warrented a paragraph in this link I found about the walking tour around town http://www.muenkermedia.com/owh/site-Lunenburg.shtml Eric Croft, who leads most of the tours, is a friend, a neighbor and one of those rare "true-born Lunenburgers".
The silhouettes are just lovely! And I love the little curls on the spires. (I'm sure there is an accurate architectural term for them - but I like curls! :)
Louise, I love the curliques on the spires, and the fish one is so unique. I like the processing you did on this- the graininess adds some mystery and 'age' to the image. Faving this one-- thanks!
i love the lights and darks in this...very lovely with the framing of the leaves on the left...beautiful churches by the way...although i don't think i've ever heard of a fish on a church steeple...i'm guessing lunenborg is a fishing industry town?
I love this shot. The shapes and the light are just wonderful. I'm glad you thought to google that local park and see some of the other sculptures there. It really is a quaint little place. It's hidden in a sense up through a neighborhood in town, with a very discrete driveway. I didn't know where it was for the longest time!
What a wonderful shot. It has a rather eerie feel to it. Sort of like a shot from an old black and white horror film :) All the shapes are fantastic and I love the cod.
I am not so good at evening or night shots. I like this one. You have created a solemn and serious mood through the two churches but also the lighting of the photo. I like it! And thank you....for taking a picture of my thank you! That's a fabulous find! haha! It truly made me smile. I'm so popular. People are often baking and eating my pies! haha! Finally, thank you for your comments on my latest picture. I wasn't too sure about it...and whether or not the photo was that good or if I should share uh that part of myself...but I thought I'd take a chance. Sometimes it's good to do that....!
I was just reading your comment on my picture and scratching my head trying to out what you meant by "that's not corn either"! Then I remembered - in the UK, we often use the term corn to refer to wheat - and what is called corn in the US, we call sweetcorn or maize! (this confused me a lot as a kid, as I'd always assumed cornflakes where made of wheat till I saw an advert on TV where they were harvesting maize!) So funny how the same language has so many odd little differences!
Louise, Thank you for your kind comments. Actually the poem was inspired by that spot. It came to me and after playing with the words, that is what came out of it.
I love the close-up shot of the cod. Interesting choice for a weathervane. You did an awesome job with the processing on this shot, and I think it really adds to the interest of the image. Even if it's not your "thing," it really is fun to play around with some new techniques, and I think it's the best way to learn. Most of what I know in Photoshop, I learned through just messing around with different effects and seeing how they came out. Well done!
Thanks for birthday greetings, which is on Friday.
Loving your rose pictures. The apartment we are hoping to get is opposite a park with roses. I can see myself spending lots of time in park.
Thank you Louise for your beautiful comment. And you are so right!! life and the world starts to look so different from behind the camera. I've never been much of a traveling soul, I cherish the safety, confort of my home, not to mention the company of my beloved furrykids, but lately after looking at beautiful photos like yours, I am having cravings of going places just to have new photo opportunities.
Oh nice, love the texture and the wonderful curls on the top of each spire. And thank you Louise for the lovely comment on my pic. I'm happy that my "theme" is pleasing. smile.
It was good to hear from you! I haven't been as diligent about 365 lately, because I'm getting ready to move twice within the next month.
(take your 17+ MB shot and just resize it when you're ready to upload ...)
And for the recipe you can find my e-mail in my profile. Please say a big thank you to David.
And I love the processing too. Nice job, Louise!

I did go look at your closeup of the fish on the steeple but couldn't comment. Very interesting!
