Though I've had the recipe for years, I began to make this cake for dessert this summer, and on every occasion, I've been requested to make it again. Our recent visitors requested it twice within a week. And last weekend I was asked to make it for a Lunenburg caterer to serve to 26 visiting members of a group sourcing organic foods in the US. (Tonight I learned the group also includes four well-known chefs!)
In the recent past I've posted a picture or two on my Shutterfly blog and have been asked for the recipe. When I mentioned it a few days ago, Eleanor made it and posted her wonderful photo http://365project.org/eleanor/365/2010-07-10 I hope she served ice cream with it...
Brad, you'll notice I didn't forget it this time... I placed that there just for you :-)
What a wonderful boast you can make about your cake being served to such an august crowd! I'm going to make this soon- I've got some Granny Smiths I haven't used yet. Louise, you're such an interesting person-- I wish we were neighbors!
OMG! I don't cook but you make me want to run right out to the kitchen and whip out the bowls and pans!! I read the recipe and it all sounds so wonderful...and it looks fantastic!!!
Oh, and I know why Bonnie's laughing, too. Hysterical! Oh, those little doggie scoundrels. :-)
Looks yummy - I still haven't made it but I will soon. I start a 5 week job next week registering kids for school at our Central Admissions office and I think I might take a cake for sharing in the break room. Thank you again!
Louise, this looks so yummy!! i definitely have to try it one of these days! I am sure it's divine! And, yes, I'll admit it - it was me who adviced everybody to wear sunscreen! It was way back in May ( http://365project.org/slava/365/2010-05-21), so Brett's husband probably didn't get the memo! Poor guy!
Louise, you are too funny. Curves on the cake or curves in creation? I will admit to having ignored the ice cream (sorry Brad!) but it's just too darn cold at the moment. This is quite one of the nicest cakes I have eaten in ages. But maybe not as nice as the lady who gave us the recipe!
@Denise - If I could have only one cake pan it would be a tube pan!
ARGHHHH!
This looks SO yummy...I think I'm going to die!
Apples...one of my fav foods, ever! Until I discovered that I am allergic to them.
And that's probably caramel on top, too..right?
Double ARGHHHHH!
Other foods that I love but am now allergic to and am missing terribly:
Peanuts, cashews, eggs, and potatoes.
pfffft.
Anyway...lovely to look at....drool...drool.
Perfect for this week's theme!
Too funny...When you mentioned Brad...the first thing that popped into my mind was, MY Brad??...huh??
*laughingsohardatmyself*
This looks absolutely divine! No wonder you get so many requests for it! I'll have to go back and find your recipe. I'm dying to try it!
Re. the cod weathervane... that makes perfect sense, and I should have thought of that! I grew up on Cape Cod, and I want to think one of the local banks uses a cod on their weathervane too (although I think the tail is raised to look like the Cape... or I could be remembering completely wrong!). I actually find the history of old fishing villages fascinating!
YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMY....this looks sooo delicious, Louise. I'd ask for the recipe, but then I'd stop at that. hahah..wouldn't even attempt to make it. I'm hopeless in the kitchen =)
Thanks for the comment Louise... I am having a blast with the macro, I really love looking for things to shoot up close, and Im amazed by the detail that lens can capture in these tiny creatures......
The most delicious curves. Thanks for you e-mail and the recipe (translated into grams). Can't wait to bake it. That looks really really good. I also sent you an e-mail back. I had one more question;)
Great job on tempting us with this photo, Louise...you know you wlll have to take the blame for people all over the world adding unneeded calories to their meals one day soon...this looks (and sounds) so good that many of us will be tempted to give it a go!
Happy to comply! For those of you with the recipe already, note the (amended) directions for applying the topping in the second photo. http://365daysintheyear.shutterfly.com/1130
that looks delish! and your plating is beautiful with the little fruit showing on the side. the ice cream addition made me giggle.
re music: yes, at the tattoo shop we have music playing all day on the radio, and i usually have music playing when i am in the car or at home. I guess i'm a musicaholic!
Thanks for your fun comments on my photos. Yes, the girl is a statue from France and it was a tribute to the Statue of Liberty. You are very quick to notice.
Wow... that looks yummy. Thank you for your advice. I should make a few prints and put them next to anything I don't want chewed on (today it was the ottoman).
YUMMY! I'd love a piece or two....but with my curves...not sure if I should! But then...I could and go work out! hehe! Your photo is so mouth-watering perfect! And you made it fit the theme as well.
Oh my goodness! This looks so delicious! Do you have the recipe posted somewhere? I'd love to have it. Come apple picking time here in Michigan I'm always looking for good apple recipes.
Oh, and I know why Bonnie's laughing, too. Hysterical! Oh, those little doggie scoundrels. :-)
