"The Lunenburg Academy is the only intact Academy building surviving in Nova Scotia. Built in 1895, until the end of this school year, this building has consistently been an elementary school with an enrollment of 165 students. The building has an entirely wood structure and stands three stories tall. From its perch on top of Gallow's Hill the Academy can be seen from miles around and is claimed to be one of the most remarkable heritage buildings in the province. It has been designated as a Municipal, Provincial and Federal Heritage site."
"An architectural masterpiece, this remarkable building is a landmark in the Town of Lunenburg. The unusual architectural style enhanced by an abundance of decorative Victorian designs, sometimes referred to by the term "Gingerbread", creates a unique structure greatly admired by visitors to the Town of Lunenburg."
I love period music and this classic was penned in 1894, Melody by H. W. Petrie and lyrics by Philip Wingate, and was a standard around the turn of the century. Http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9_LW3BJ5mU
seung jun http://365project.org/seungjun/profile , new to 365, has been recently posting photos pumped with primary color, so I was inspired to go that route, too.
wow, Louise. great architectural shot. this structure's beautiful. and i love how you composed it, with the flowers framing the bottom. this could be an ad for the academy.
hahaha I love your title and how it corresponds with the colors in your photograph. really stunning and I definitely think it could be an ad! So, soooo beautiful! Will be going to check out the music too! :)
Such a beautiful building!!! Amaizng shot, Louise!! I agree with Rainee, the flowers add so much to the framing! And the colors are simply brilliant! I quite enjoyed going back in time with your musical choice! ;-) Have a great and sunny weekend! :-)
Gorgeous shot. Love the amazingly detailed architecture of the building - I can't believe that was an elementary school. I think pumping up the colors was an excellent choice. They really pop.
Louise!! this is absolutely GORGEOUS!! the colors couldnt get happier :) I have missed you!!! I just can't get around to everybody's photo but that I havnt been able to see your photos makes me really sad :( well just know you always post such lovely pictures and you are still a kindhearted loving adopted grandmother in my eyes :)
wow! I just love these bold colors together! What a great angle and simply lovely colors.
To respond to your question the other day, at one of my jobs (the primary one) I do work mostly graveyards. It's not too bad though because usually it's only one or two per week for 12 hours a night usually. Makes for long nights, but short work weeks. I also have a second job, which I work early mornings a few days a week...I prefer the graveyards most of the time! haha. It can be a bit taxing switching back and forth so much(days to graves and back), but when you need money for bills and such you do what you have to do I guess. I just try to keep in mind that one day the need for 2 jobs will no longer be there.
I love your photo of this beautiful building. It really shows off! Colors, the angle, everything. I'd like to go inside! Wonder if they have a principal's secretary I could compare notes with?
Amazing building, the primary colours are so vibrant, weather looks great there. Thank you for your comments on my page, sounds like you missed a great opportunity with the cyclists, but the picture you posted was lovely and conveyed such heartfelt ssentiments.
I listened to the period song, proper music hall, & very apt with the school theme! P always reminisces about the time he was a boy in Southampton & went to a Pantomime staring Charles Hawtrey - the boy soprano in your song - by then an old & fading comedy actor!
Wow, I love the roof tops, great! The whole building actually is really cool. The windows, just an over all beautiful building. You have it composed nicely too louise.
Wow, this is gorgeous!! I absolutely love the contrasting colors and your composition! It looks so beautiful! Up to this point I only have 3 must visits on my list. Alaska, Maine, and the Grand Canyon. I think now I have 4!
Thank you as always for your lovely comments! I'm quite proud of my daughter. She's an awesome mommy!
That is a great looking building Louise. Like the way you have the picture framed. I have been following seung jun and have been enjoying his descriptions of the colors. Very inspirational.
this is stunning!! the building is beautiful, as is your photo. i love the color and the way you framed it with the beautiful yellow flowers. what a beautiful place to learn!!
Hi.... the two guys in Hawaiian shirts on our Photowalk were just tourists whom we stopped to ask if we could take their pictures! They were flattered and happy to oblige - and a bit amused! Indeed, everyone we asked was amused at twenty people all with cameras - most with two or three cameras - wanted to take their photograph!
Wow, what a fantastic building to go to school to! In fact, it would be a great building to visit every day! Great perspective and fantastic colours, too!
Love the contrasty boldness you brought out with the processing of this shot. Your title says it all. There are many people here that give me ideas and I think you have successfully paid it forward since I too feel the desire to chase some primary colors now. Thanks Louise (and Seung too).
