My view out my front door the other day gave me the idea to turn the camera around and photograph the breezeway through to the back yard. Unless I knew how to create an HDR image, I think it might be impossible to have a balance of light in the hallway and the outside as well. It was such a pretty morning, I remedied that with a collage.
As a point of interest, these old houses were built typically four-square around a central hallway. If we open the windows in the front rooms & open these two doors, the cooling breeze is enough to keep the house very pleasent, even on a warm day.
...is everyone as shocked as I am that another month has come to a close and the summer is winding down! I remember my childhood when even the years went by slowly. I want the time to savor it more slowly again!
Great collage! How nice that your house was designed like that so that you don't have to use AC. I love the shadows of the plants in the photo on the right.
Great collage! I am shocked that the summer is going by so fast. At the same time, I am starting to look forward to cooler weather and a slower pace. Summer is so busy! I can't spend as much time on here as I would like!
Such an inviting entryway! Thanks for sharing more of your lovely home with us! I love houses that are designed to take advantage of the breeze or of natural light. I also can't believe the summer is going by so fast! I feel like it just started!
I really love this idea!!! I love the entryway and the garden looks so pleasant, and the collage frame you decided to use is perfect! Great great photo.
It's odd to see that another month has passed. It's going by far too quickly.
It just amazes me the views from and into everyone's door is so different. What a creative idea! You know I realized that last night that today is the first and it's August now. I find myself going back and forth between wanting it to slow down and speed up. I've enjoyed hearing about your life in such a beautiful place!
I so admire your house in Lunenburg. It is nice to have air without the "conditioning". Thanks for your comments on our pictures, you are right, it is nice to have "the team" back on track and I enjoy having her home for the summer before she heads off to Germany for her masters.
great idea to do a collage. Your house is just so beautiful and inviting no wonder you have so many friends coming over! When do you leave Canada to head back to California?
What a lovely collage Louise! And thank you for your comment on my photo, I wasn't really 'gone' - just on holiday :) I'm currently looking through all the photos I've taken while I was away - luckily I love editing :)
A beautiful collage, I love The 1888 air con! What beautiful views! Here it seems August is the middle of summer, I guess the seasons are a bit different. But my haven't you lived your summer to the max! You don't seem to have had the time to spend those looonnnggg lazy days not doing all that much that I remember from childhood. And how time flies for us adults with very full days! : )
Louise, you always have the loveliest photos and write the most interesting descriptions! I love following you! This is delightful and makes me miss NS so much!
This is fabulous--two breeze ways! And your house (from what I can see in this and other photos) is really beautiful. I love older houses--they have a tangibility to them that the newer ones just cannot compete with.
As far as time goes--I think adults forget to savour the small moments. We have our eyes on the "bigger" picture and that speeds our days up and makes us grow old. Revel in the smaller things...time slows. That's my thoughts on that anyways!
What a beautiful entryhall you have! And beautiful outdoor patio. Love old houses. And I remember that too...how summers went by oh-so-slowly when you were a kid, it stretched out in lazy hazy days ahead of you, and now....here it is, I'm school shopping again?
Nice shots and great collage! I agree, summer go's too fast now a days. There's only a few more weeks and the kids will be back in school. I'm sad about that.
re: summer flying by ... I am on my final countdown - just two weeks until I board the plane to wing my way back to Colorado! I am starting the mental transition, thinking about my classroom, but I'm really not ready for the physical transition. Also, can you believe that we've posted 200+ pictures?!!? It will be the end of the year (and our FIRST 365) before we know it!
Very nice collage...this must be so nice to be able to cool your house down like this. The heat index in Charleston this past week was 119 a couple of days and then down to 117. It sure is good to be back home. It's been really hot here in VA this summer but not quite that hot.
What an excellent idea!!! Now I'm wondering what's up the starcase....you might have to give us a virtual tour of the whole house. Great clarity on this shot.
Thank you for the comment on my "Oz" shot.
Love the peek into your world. And yes I hate that summer is coming to a close. When you are a teacher, as I am, you continue to think like the kids and follow the school calender for your schedule. I am not complaining because what other profession gives you a fresh start every year!
This is such a wonderful photo, Louise!! There's nothing better than natural air conditioning! It keeps it just the right temperature - neither too hot, nor too cold! Your house is so pretty - I love all the plants outside! And you are right - time goes by too fast! I can't believe August is here already and in 10 days I'll be turning 27! I guess the only meaningful thing to do, is just to make the most of every day! :-) Which I know you do :-) I am trying to sort out my pictures from the house right now. My poor computer will need more disk space soon! ;-)
love this collage, louise, and love your home!!
and you have no idea how special i felt to come home to your message that you were thinking of me as i was away. you are one very big part of what i love about my 365 community--which i truly missed while i was gone!! so thank you--for your encouragement and friendship!! (:
Such a lovely collage - your house is so nice.
My grandmother's house was of the same design, always cool in summer & she had a door betwen the dining room and the parlour she closed in winter to keep the back of the house warm with the wood fire in her kitchen :D
As you say August is upon us already - September is our first day of Spring, so your seasons must be changing too - all too soon - my how the time has flown :)
We are all having such a good time though!!!!

Who knows, maybe I was in your attic:) And yes, how is it possible that summer is almost over? Second week at work just started.
