The Kindness of Strangers by Weezilou

The Kindness of Strangers

As a family, we're amazed over the events of the last few days and both the comments from the community and email from friends. We're in a happy daze! While the new family gets settled into a routine, the rest of us are running their errands and fixing meals. "Trader Joe's" was one store I missed this summer while I was in Canada, so it was a pleasure to take our list there today in Heather's neighborhood. Both here and in California, the people working there are such a pleasure to deal with, and I suspect they're hired as much for their personality as ability. As we were checking out today, "Keith" asked us what we had planned for the rest of the day. Heather told him we were going to be cooking dinner for her sister who just had a baby, and he asked if Ken and I were the new grandparents. Within a minute he was sharing the story of his own parents and how excited they were to have a grandbaby, and then said, "I'd like to give you some flowers for the occasion!" He sent someone to bring us two bouquets of sunflowers and mums that now grace the living room table at Heathers. The small, thoughtful gestures and kind words mean the world to us! We're more appreciative of these than you can possibly imagine!

Heather gets all the credit for fixing an amazing meal to take to John & Ashley last night. After dinner, they tried to get some rest while I was delighted to cradle Ashton for a couple of hours. This Grandmother business is going to be a pleasure like no other!

I look forward to getting some photos of him outside and will post another soon. Thanks to those of you who've asked!
Great Pic

Sounds like it is a great experience so far! Becoming a grandparent is our reward for going through the terrible twos, and the teenage years.

Dinner is one of the best things you can give to a new mom! I always give a nice pan of baked mostiaciolli for my new baby gift.

Congratulations again to all!

Like attracts like so I am not at all surprised by this kind gesture! What a beautiful burst a spring in these flowers, all the more appreciated as the temperature drops around me. I can so picture you sitting there loving baby Ashton. So next time you are at Trader Joes try the Marsala Burgers they are DIVINE. I love them so much I drive the hour to the closest Trader Joes to get them.

I like the red wall! Are you staying with Heather? Trader Joe's is so nice, as we found out when visiting our son in Portland. We hope that some day Denver will have one. Keith was very sweet to give you flowers! Very pretty photo! Holding those grandbabies is so heartwarming you almost can't believe it. I remember when Ella was so tiny.

There is a saying in German "Glück steckt an". (Happiness is contagious) . I believe that you and your family radiate so much happiness right now that people feel affected by it and react to it. You make them feel happy and they return the favor.

It sounds like things are going quite well there, and it also sounds like you are indeed getting a handle on the Grandmother role. I can tell you Loiuse, it only gets better. We look forward to seeing some photos of little Ashton.

We don't have a Trader Joe's near us. We don't have much near us, in all honesty. I miss Trader Joe's and it was so nice of them to do this for you. It definitely is the little things that mean so much. And now all of us here at 365 will pass on the word telling everyone how nice they were to you! Word of mouth...........
October 20th, 2010
how sweet is that, I tell you! There's hope for all of us, isn't there?

@suebiz47 Yes, we're staying at Heather & Tina's home, just a short couple miles from Ashley & John & baby! They painted the living room when they moved in, and fortunately one wall is windows for some light!
