We've been on a road trip up past Halifax and on to Cape Breton...the adventures we encountered I could never have anticipated! We passed a house that was covered in folk art and I asked Ken to stop so I could get photos. After I looked around, this man, Barry Colpitts came out and seemed delighted that I was enjoying his work. I left everyone waiting int he car while I spent 15-20 minutes talking to him and seeing his imaginative art. Folk artists up here are revered and their work collected with a passion, so this meeting was just a stunner for me!
Here he is in what he calls his "Flying Bird Chair". When he rocks back and forth, the birds seemed to flutter around him! He was gracious and charming and very interesting to talk to...I wish I could afford some of his work...and have a place to display it!
******************* I just looked through that link myself, and my jaw dropped... I have a red fox by this man! Ken bought it for me at the first folk art show he went to... What a coincidence and a small world! *****************
Happy Birthday, my friend! Sounds like you had a wonderful day out and about...exploring and making new discoveries. Hope you ended the day with a big ol' glass of wine and a fantastic meal! Hugs!!! :-D
@msk1p2 Isn't this *just perfect* subject matter for you! This would be an awesome piece to display at the sanctuary! So glad you liked it, too! The more I'm learning about this man, the more I realize I was visiting with the best in the region and I had no idea!!! Still, how amazing to discover when I got home that I already owned a piece of his art! Thanks for liking him, too; he was quite wonderful!
