"I *AM* Home"... by Weezilou

"I *AM* Home"...

We had a wonderful visit with our daughter & the boys that included a visit to the aquarium and this morning, brunch at a favorite restaurant down at the beach. Back home, Ashton & his dad took a swim, Ashley packed and Ken & I played with Dylan. As things wound down, Ashley told Ashton it was time to get ready to go home, and he told her, "I don't want to go...I AM home!" I asked if I could take a picture of him with Papa, and he climbed in amongst the plants and tree and said, "Don't look at me" to Ken, Ashley and me... So Ash & I faced each other, but I rested the camera on my arm facing him... When out of the corner of my eye I caught him turning, I snapped the photo. I see there the real pain of a three-year-old who loves visiting us and was suffering separation anxiety. We'll see him again in Canada a month from now when they come up to visit, but then not again until we return to California late in the year. Ken and I are going to suffer separation anxiety, too...
Fantastic portrait, you sneaky Grandma! The light's great as is the composition. And that look!!! You really captured it.

@june Thanks so much June! I never tried "less hard" to snap a photo, but I really wanted to capture the moment that was unfolding. I just feel fortunate that this dear memory was captured as well as it was! Thanks for your kind words!

What a precious portrait. I remember that feeling when I used to visit my grandparents in Chicago. I did not want to leave either.

Wow, the look on his face and in his eyes says it all. It must be tough living so far apart like that, but then the visits are really special

Poor thing - both of you. It's hard to be apart from family when time goes by so quickly and they grow so fast. Very sweet shot!

Perfection, Grandma. Captured the expression in his eyes. How wonderful that he feels that way about your home and you and Ken.

Now that's a tender and heartbreaking tale! A great capture to remember the moment. Taken with your new camera I see! Seems to be working quite well!

Your heart must break when you think of the time apart from this loving little boy, but how wonderful that he has that deep feeling for his grandparents. And that heartfelt "I am home!" is too poignant for words.
