Hurricane Whipped Sea ... Blue Rocks, Nova Scotia

Yes, this IS a color photo!

Well, we got the weather! We heard the wind begin at 4 Am and the electricity went out before 6... We got little rain, but the wind was fierce! 9:30, electricity back on, so it was coffee, first, computers, next! I'd just made note that the electricity fails often, hit "send" and it went out again! While out, the eye of the storm passed over us with blue skies and puffy clouds and we began to think about going for a drive to see the open ocean, just a few miles away. We picked up a couple friends to join us & I got so many photos that tell the story...this, just the first I came to, and I like it...little time to worry it to death as to which to use! We invited Gill & her cousin, visiting from So Africa, to come for supper, so went back to prepare dinner. Ken made baked apples and we pulled together a spaghetti dinner with salad. They arrived, we sat down and within minutes, the electricity went out again (for the third time!) I filled the room with candles, and we had a gorgeous old-fashioned evening! No music, of course, and no after-dinner coffee, but otherwise as good as 110% for all it did have! When they left, Ken walked them to the car with a flashlight...the town was black! We went back to the living room, finished a bottle of wine (by candle light), left the dishes until tomorrow and turned in early...

What a "fun" day! I don't mean that sarcastically...it was totally "different" and *fun*!
Wow. I am in love with this shot. There is so much drama and so many tones present. Can't believe I am the first to comment on this. Did you just post it?

@adambralston Thanks, Adam! Yes...just posted, so nice to be greeted like that! Had to just run with something...off to pick up all the tree debris in the back yard...lots of minor wind damage! (but those photos are for another day!)

WOW! I LOVE craggy rocks and ocean spray but I'm thinking I could do without this level of wind. Great capture. Glad you're safe.

Fabulous!!! Instant fav! Such an incredibly powerful shot! Love the description of your day! I thought our weather was bad, but I think a hurricane would have been worse!

Only realised now that I'm not following you - rectified!

@chard Ken is about through reading The Cartographer and is telling our friends about it! Thanks so much for recommending it! It's on my reading list, but...what can I say...I haven't made or found the time to read...like for the last year! Hmmmm...365 maybe?

@pyrrhula no, no radio, and I'm not sure what an "mp3 player" is... an iPod? I don't own one... Have music on my computer and CDs...but no electricity!

Sounds a bit 'interesting', in the Chinese sense! I love that wild sea shot, your colouring is perfect and captures the whole wind and sound scenario. I can almost smell that salt spray.

@golftragic Marnie, thank you so much for those comments! I loved your work immediately because you handled post-processing so beautifully & always made it interesting! Your compliments mean a lot as I'm just learning how to do this a bit better...

@Weezilou well, you are in the right place to read it now if you find time.
July 7th, 2014
@chard So Ken tells me! Even the family names are familiar to us!
July 7th, 2014
Well it sounds like it all ended up as nice as could be for you and your guests. Candle light dinner, the only way to eat. Summer is full of these kinds of surprises.

@digitalrn Since you commented as you did, I'll share a funny comment from our neighbour, David one night. I was fixing dinner and he asked if I was going to light the candles...paused and said, "We're not barbarians, you know"... Ken and I fall back on this quote almost every time we light the candles now! Still makes me laugh!

Wine by candlelight with this photo to enjoy - yup, I'm happy.
Gorgeous photo!

Gorgeous shot!! I would never complain about a candlelit dinner, especially in such a setting.....now, I understand that all your music is on your computer and CDs, so no electricity, no music! However, I just don't comprehend how on earth you could not make coffee!! I would never survive without it!! I do remember that Ken makes you cappuccino every morning, but surely you could just boil water and use a French press (my weapon of choice!) to make coffee! And, even if your cooktop is electric I would still find a way to boil water, even if I had to chop down a tree and light a fire....lol! :-)))
