After a lovely dinner party & birthday celebration with friends Sunday evening, I was delighted to have a "low-key" day with Ken. In typical Nova Scotia fashion, "the mundane" never really is! At 7:30, Ken walked down to the dock to buy fresh scallops that had just arrived. By 10:30 AM the back deck had been completely removed! (More about this in a moment!) Ken and I took off for the larger near-by town where we did some shopping, but ran into people we hadn't seen in awhile & had some nice visits. 3+ hrs later, driving home, we passed a sign by a driveway saying they had canned goods for sale! "Cheryl & Vernon" welcomed us into their kitchen where a kettle was boiling on the stove & a table was laden with every sort of pickles, beets, relishes and beans! We gathered a box-full & will return again soon! Back home, Ken made a cheese plate, poured us some wine and I opened my cards & presents. The kids called and sent videos, Ken made us dinner & I shared scallops with Fred. When I finally sat to my computer, I went to Google, thought how cool it was that they had a picture of cake "on my birthday!"...went to see who it was for and the pop up said, "Happy Birthday, Louise!" OMG...now THAT was unexpected! What fun! What a cool day!
...and the house? We signed the papers to buy it on my birthday 13 years ago! (Best present I ever received! ...so I call it "mine"...) Today Ken got me 10# of fresh scallops right off the boat and the house is getting a new deck!
Happy Birthday Louise, and may all your wishes this year come true! Sounded like a very fun day in Nova Scotia! Enjoy and it is so nice to see someone celebrate life!
@seattle Thank you so much Constance! The older we get the more we realize there's little-enough time left to appreciate what we have...the life we received on Day 1...and THAT's the gift, isn't it?
@lyndemc LOVE the "bulleted Birthday"! Looks totally cool! I love that there's joy to be had even in simple occasions...
Sounds just perfect Louise. Happy Birthday to you, wonderful lady! You lead such a wonderful life - enjoy. I was also surprised by the Google message on my birthday - it was fun! ;)
Happy birthday to you . Many congratulations I`ve one on you to night. And thanks for let me read you to days dairy writing. It`s quiet a day for you.
Love you collage and all of the beautiful pic.`s of it. Special those of yours.
Oh happy happy birthday! Love the collage, and after reading your narrative, ibwish I had been along for such an adventurous and delicious-sounding day!
@lynnz Thanks, Lynn, mine, too, even though it's fuzzy. Holding a wonderful cat, chatting with my daughter & about to have a meal Ken prepared for me... yep...that photo says it all!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU. Love your kitty shot. Sounds like you had a wonderful birthday. Congrats on the house stuff and everything. I'm in Teccington, UK close to Richmond. I'd like some fresh scallops please!!
Happy, happy, happy, and the happiest of birthdays my fellow Leo!! I was thinking of you on that day, but never got a chance to get on the computer and check my messages or 365! I spent most of mine on the road driving to Mussel Shoals in Ventura County from San Francisco, but once there it was wonderful. Your day sounds wonderful! So many fun things happening, and the best thing is that Fred got scallops! ;-)) I hope someday we get to celebrate together....I know it is in the cards!
Oh, and I can definitely relate to your construction adventures! I wish things had gotten done in my absence, but nothing got accomplished! Hopefully, our front yard will be hardscaped next week!
@panthora As the saying goes, "It's better to give than to receive..." It was a joy to see Fred's delight as he was reintroduced to the scallops! (Tonight we had salmon...which I intended to share...but as I took my first bite, unprepared for him, he leaped ungracefully to try to get into my lap! What he may lack in table manners, he makes up for in cuteness...and he did make us laugh!) I've had some wonderful birthday celebrations up here, and if you'd make the trip, I know we'd turn "our day" into "The Best of the Maritimes". We'll get together early next year and think about making that happen!
We're now without the back deck and *hope* it will be close to completed by the time we return on the 15th... I'm a "glass half-full" kinda gal... Good luck with the hard scape...we had the front done last fall and it looks more filled in every day... Won't we have a lot to share one day! Thanks for coming by! (Did you receive my card?)
Oooh, very many happy returns, belatedly! I'm so sorry I was MIA for a few days and so missed the actual day! Your day really sounds like it was fun! Here's to many more!!
@chard ...thank you m'friend...still 16 in my heart and head...(I just say "ouch" when I roll over some times!)
