When Anita posed the challenge to go with B&W, I thought it would be quite a stretch for me, loving color as I do! Who knew how the seasonal change would lend itself so perfectly and the timing to segue was perfect!
OK, I couldn't "go all the way" with this picture, but there I was, back at the Academy to sit in on two Master Classes from 3 until 7:30. One was for violin & cello before a 45 minute break. I returned to listen to the second class(es) for two extrodinary piano students.
Just as last week, it's gray, windy and rainy. Most people grumble, but I think the weather is wonderful, a seasonal change that promises the chance of snow flurries tonight! After another musical performance Sunday afternoon by "The Gryphon Trio" (cello, violin & piano), I'll be back home as cozy as this flower in the window...
You do have such a wonderful time, isn't it great to have such a range of opportunities and people. Love the capture and like you I think I too might have sneaked some colour in.
@radiogirl Your snow is our rain! At 9:30 (Mon) Ken called me to see some flurries! Do you think I might be the only person over 8 y-o who's excited about that?! (@chard thought you'd want to see the note, too!)
@merteskid Thanks, Jo...add to the image the sound of the piano being played, and it's a "transporting room"! (In actuality it's an old school built in the 1890s, in disuse as of 2 years ago, and it's being re functioned as a music academy.)
@ethelperry Oh Ethel, how I wish I might even be able to read a note of music! I was raised on classical music (records and radio), then lived in Hawaii & that music infused my young life. In my teen years I embraced rock'n'roll (much to my mother's horror ;)...and the folk music of the "hootenanny" era. I know the words to most every tune written from the Gay 90's forward which is my "Musical Gift"...but I can play nary a note! However, I am an element in every show...I am an audience member, full of appreciation for talented musicians! I've been fortunate in my life to meet many actors and musicians through others I know, and there's something quite exquisite about coming to know "the human personality" behind the performer. I recognize their talent has given them the opportunity to carve out a job for themselves that might be more fun than that of the work-a-day individual, and I've come to know that most appreciate being acknowledged on both levels. ... And as if I haven't been long-winded enough, I hasten to add that in this small community, there is far more available, culturally, just minutes from home than I could hope to attend in a sprawling area like the LA Basin. I won't even begin to mention the vast difference in ticket prices! When we're here, we try to soak up a year's worth and back home we'll be happy with our season tickets at a lovely Repertory Theater, that hopefully, puts on one musical a year... ...we'll return next June and jump in again! (Thanks for bearing with me...I love writing and sharing how I feel about things I love...could you tell?!)
Very nice composition! I like the contrast between light and dark. From the looks of what appears to be water drops on the windows, it doesn't look very sunny though!
@scarybird fascinating! Not even being able to read music, I could hear the nuances the teacher was instilling into the student's performances. The following day, at the performance by The Gryphon Trio, who had been the instructors, I could hear the subtleties they were trying to teach the students. All wonderful!
I really like the feel of this shot- so quiet but also melodious. I also like the texture on the windows. And I agree, this would not be as lovely in black and white- so I'm glad you kept it in color.
@taffy Thanks for your sweet note! When I wrote Ethel, I hadn't thought about others reading it as well, but it's nice to know I was able to share that background with you, too. When we're visiting over a cup of coffee sometime, remind me to tell you about the surprise birthday gift from my daughter in Chicago who took me to see Show Boat when it was performed there... That was all something pretty special!
I hope you're on the mend...bummer about your knee!
great shot!
(know I'll be envying you your beautiful snow photos...really!) (Did that help?)
I hope you're on the mend...bummer about your knee!
