Our first stop in the islands was to shop for groceries, but the first item in the cart was a bundle to these exquisitely fragrant blooms. They're on the table as I write, and the scent fills the room with a pungent sweetness. I set them on the lanai table and the palms created an abundance of bokeh. It's just after 8 AM and I have three favorite photos already! I may just post them and decide what to do later when I actually leave the condo!
@hbdaly On first glance I thought you'd written that you lived in Hawaii for 30 years! I thought, "Why in H- did you leave???" I lived in three different homes on Oahu over an 8-year period when I was young, but I've always carried Island Life around in my bones ever since! (It was my choice for retirement when we ended up in Lunenburg! Good thing I came to love it, too, and surprisingly for some of the same reasons...)
@Weezilou oh Louise, don't I wish!! My Dad was in the Army and we were stationed on Oahu in the early 80's. it was only three years but I completely know what you mean - something about that place stays inside of you forever! I'm hoping to be able to bring David and the boys there sometime soon and share it all with them too... :)
@hbdaly We were on Oahu in the late 40s/early 50s (I'm old!) Looking back, it was almost rural compared to today, bug city that Honolulu is! I'm grateful for old home movies, some on Waikiki with 3 hotels in the background! Everyone loves it here, perhaps a little too much...don't expect to find it as you left it, but I'm sharing what still touches my soul...
Tuber rose is one of my fave scents! This is such a lovely capture. I'm looking forward to your shots for the next *almost* two weeks! Enjoy your heart home, Weezi!
@lyndemc Why quibble, Denise...but we're on Maui this time, though. While we often go to Oahu for a few days now and then when we're here, I lived on that island as a child, and Holly had written that she'd lived there as well in the 80s.
@fjmom Thanks for all the notes, Carol! It's been a beautiful first full day, even as I try to choose a 3rd photo for my last album! You're going to love it here! NO shortage of photo possibilities!
Gorgeous!! These flowers make me happy, and I can smell them all the way from here! So glad your days are filled with sunshine and flowers....and, good food, and drinks....and, company! :-))
@cimes1 Thanks, Carole! I think I recall your friends were on the Big Island? At any rate, we're having our first day of steady rain...not a prob lem, as far as we're concerned! Our kids just took the little ones out for a pancake breakfast and later we're going to the aquarium. If you can't find "fun" in Hawaii, you're not trying hard enough! (You've got much the same beauty, I know, in Florida!)
