As we neared sunset, Ken, Ashton and I went to the water for photos and joined a sizable crowd. Within minutes it began to sprinkle, and you've never seen people rush off so fast! They're not of a Maui-mindset yet, obviously! That (once again) left only 3-4 people on the beach, and when this man walked by with this board, I followed him a short distance for pictures. He'd crouch down, watch the waves, and, in a split second he was catapulting into the surf, skimming out, and riding a wave back in. Frankly, he was getting more board time than many surfers whom I've seen waiting forever to catch a wave, only to have it fizzle before returning to wait again. As he was waiting, I told him he and his board made a nice silhouette, and I was getting some good photos of him in the surf ... and then he was gone again! When he returned, he asked what I was shooting, and said he'd just become interested in taking pictures a couple years ago. I know when to launch into my enthusiasm for photography and 365, but we were in this place for different reasons tonight. I think (I know, actually) we both were happy with what we got out of it.
@panthora Back story: I wanted to retire out here. Before retirement, we'd discovered Lunenburg and Ken fell in love with the slow pace of life and the quiet beauty. I said, "...but Hawaii...", and he said I was welcome to come here any time I'd like...and he's been good to his word! Of course there's not really enough time to do it all, and we *ADORE* NS, so I've no complaints!
@salza He didn't express an interest in having a copy (though I showed him some of what I'd taken). I'd love to get a copy of this to him; I think he'd love having it. If I see him again, I'll ask for an email address...
man against nature. such a lovely sunset and a wonderful silhouette with just a scintilla of detail on the board. i like it! it also makes me miss the sea. somehow the water that side of the world seems a lot more seductive than the atlantic, not that it's not beautiful, it is, just that that side has more romance.
@summerfield Thanks for the extensive comments, Vikki! I've lived in the Pacific and on the Atlantic, and I completely concur with your assessment! I can't say why (you and) I see it that way, but I think we're not alone...
