I had to look, first thing this morning, to see who else had risen with us in the wee hours to watch the Easter "Blood" Moon. I suspected Richard @chard had taken one, and he didn't disappoint me http://365project.org/chard/some-others/2015-04-04 . After sharing our story with him, I realized I'd just written my caption, so here it is...
I was scrolling through the feed to see who else was up and out there with us in the wee morning hours! Yes, as we, too, stood for photos for about an hour, my thoughts turned to who else might be out there with us! And, to tell the truth, I remembered you telling me (when I totally muffed it the last time around) that I had another chance, I'm about to post it... Won't rock the world of "better photogs and their cameras", but Ken and I partook of the event and it was something pretty special! ..."ok...I should just copy and paste that ramble for my caption!"
It's hard to be more clever than that in the early morning (when it's the second early morning of my day!)
Really great! I gotta admit, I was up but only because I don't feel well. No good moon viewing on east coast. I did think of who might be up with a good view and a camera at the ready! Thanks for sharing!
@lifepause Pretty cool that so many of us were out there thinking of one another in unison... It left me with a rather bonded and good feeling :) And speaking of which, I hope you're feeling better this morning!
Linda texted us at 4:30 this a.m. (wonder how she figured we might hear it at that hour?) to tell us to go out and check out the moon. John happened to be awake, so we wandered out to the back yard to see. Interesting. (She goes to the gym at that hour, before work!)
Nice Louise. It was cloudy here and we live on the edge of not seeing it. I was going to climb a mountain to take a look if the weather was good. Thanks for sharing.
@lifepause@rosiekind@fjmom@kevin365 Thank you all so much for the pat on the back...I'll take it with great appreciation! 3:45 AM is not when I typically rise (!) ... We dodged the street light, neighbor's motion light that came on, two rounds of auto sprinklers, and the newspaper-delivery man who came in toward us with his headlights facing the camera. (He did seem to "get it" as I waved my arm at him...he turned, stopped, facing it, and watched for a few minutes.) Oh, and thanks, too, from Ken, who, while helping me keep the camera on the moon, got soaked by one round of sprinklers. Not complaining you understand...It's what we photographers are willing to do... Just gratification and many thanks for your positive response... ♥
@cirasj Willing to climb a mountain! That's going to great lengths! We who only went across the street are glad to share :)
@lachapaudie (hehe...) That IS the eclipse... I have photos for about 40 minutes as the bright crescent got smaller and smaller, took as many as possible while it was covered, but also enjoyed the amazing sight. After an hour, I wasn't willing to watch it move on, crawled back into bed about 5:30 and slept until 8...
@kelly2 Like you, I've never seen this either! I resisted altering or increasing the colour to any degree...only let RAW do an auto colour which wasn't much. It really WAS that dark orangy-red... I think this shot was 1-second long.
@anne15 Thanks, Anne... I was just writing these follow-up notes. It would have been frustrating to live where the event is taking place, and then not to be able to witness it! Believe me, in the LA area with all our ambient light , things like star-showers are a no-go. Happily we had a clear night. Best of all was to stand there and witness it with Ken (who was a big help as I took the pictures.
sounds like i had an easier time than you...just walked out the front door.....but you have captured much more detail. we both used the same camera though. now when is the next event we can do at the same time?
@chard I think it would be an awesome get together! California or Colorado? Maybe better yet, can you get away to Nova Scotia? Your kind of wide open spaces and photo ops galore! Your turn to mull!
@chard You DO know Ken and I would be serious about that... I think Sue and Deb are coming up this summer... she told Heather... Heather wrote me... I wrote Sue... ...and I'm on hold... :) The door is always open to a good friend!
Fantastic!! I'm impressed you got up (you both got up) to go out and take this shot -- what a great result! I had on a sleep mask so I could sleep in today...missed the whole thing.
Lovely photo of the eclipse. I was lucky that it started just after 9pm for me with totality at 11pm. At the time I did think of how I was all alone looking up at the sky and yet there would be thousnads of people around the world looking at the same scene.
What a great shot of the moon! We went out and watched it, but it was kind of cloudy, so didn't really get a very good view. 4:30 in the morning was just too early for me!
Great detail and depth in this picture. I too was wondering if people had captured the blood moon. We didn't see it here so it's nice to see your shot.
