Where there's a Will, there's a Way ... by Weezilou

Where there's a Will, there's a Way ...

With so small a window of opportunity, I was determined to keep trying to get the moon image I imagined but which was continuing to elude me! I determined to rise early to capture the setting moon; it's rather extraordinary what you can learn-by-observing in that first hour of the day!

...whereas the moon rises very quickly past the ridge of a mountain in the distance, I found more control over a closer silhouette and with more time to capture what I was striving for.

...had I waited to take my first photos until the moon was large and about to set, it would have been a failure. By then, the rising sun all but washed out the features on the moon.

...I had the pleasure of seeing both a plane and several birds cross the path of the moon as I was zoomed in on it, but I now have even greater admiration for those who are able to capture that! (I didn't even come close!)

So at 8 AM I've concluded a satisfying project and I've got my cup of coffee at hand. Here's to a good day!
Here's to a job well done! I have learned so much by trying to photograph the moon well.

Very successful! I personally still haven't captured the moon 100% to my satisfaction yet, but i keep trying different things. Tripod and focus stacking next on the agenda for me...
March 24th, 2016
@frankhymus Thank, Frank! Tripod here...check! My hope was to get some semblance of focus in the foreground as well as to be able to see the texture of the moon. This was enough to start my day off right! You've mastered so much more, I clearly understand your desire to ratchet up the challenge! Maybe you'll catch the plane as it flies across!

Way to keep working on your moon ------- I like the midnight blue.
March 24th, 2016
Definitely a successful moon capture! I like that you got both the moon and the branches (palm tree?) in focus!
March 24th, 2016
@LaLa I like the way you put that..."workin' the moon"! The colors lat night and this morning were close to what I saw. Thanks!

@fjmom The palm trees were about four houses down the street, so the distance helped (a little) to get them a bit more in focus, but it was the moon I wanted to see with texture. Thanks so much!
March 24th, 2016
This is truly stunning, the colors are amazing!
March 24th, 2016
Beautiful composition.
March 24th, 2016
@blackmutts @thresheg Thank you both so much, and for the fave, Graham!
March 24th, 2016
You have outdone yourself this time! The colors are so rich, the contrast so dramatic and the assignment so challenging, you deserve multiple faves!
March 24th, 2016
Very well done!
March 24th, 2016
This is beautiful! well done!
March 24th, 2016
The moon is set off beautifully!
March 24th, 2016
Super composition. This is something I still want to master, well at least get something that looks reasonable! I really like that you have so much detail on the moon plus some silhouettes in the foreground.
March 24th, 2016
@salza Thanks, Sally... That's exactly what I was striving for! I think a silhouette "closer than a far-away mountain" might be the answer! For me, anyway, I was more satisfied with this than my effort last night!

@allie912 Wow Allie! No worder you're graduating exceptional students! You make them (and me) feel really good about my efforts! THANK YOU!

It's lovely Louise. Great shot!
March 24th, 2016
Beautiful clear shot
March 24th, 2016
Arhh! She shines all around the world :) Terrific clear capture. I had to practice and read lots to learn how to capture the moon. Then the clouds decide to cover her up :) My wish too is to capture birds or a plane flying in front too! Fav
March 24th, 2016
I'm afraid I'm going to need a better camera, a tripod and a lot more discipline. Love your moon.
March 24th, 2016
@tunia Well, thank you, Tunia! My camera is a bridge camera with a 60x zoom...the feature I most wanted, and I do enjoy it! Given that, a tripod (or something flat to set it on, is a necessity) Don't laugh, but I was so set on getting up earlier than usual to get my photo, I was dreaming about the moon all last night! AND, then I got up even earlier than planned! I'd have been disappointed if it was a total bust, but I'm not displeased, and it was rather fun to be out at that hour!
March 24th, 2016
Now I`m singing : Blue Moon, you saw me standing alone.. the rest of this day. Well never mind, it`s a lovely song and a beautiful pic.

Fav. Great image. So clear and bright.
March 26th, 2016
Oh well done Louise! A lovely moon image against the beautiful deep blue of the sky! I was up early too yesterday driving home from Derbyshire. I had the moon setting on my right and the sun rising on my left! It was breathtaking! Not something I normally see! Perhaps I should get up earlier more often! Lol! Fav for this lovely capture!
March 26th, 2016
@pamknowler Thanks Pam! Your class study sounded amazing! We look forward to hearing more! I, too, was struck by the sun and moon at the same horizon levels that morning... I even tried a panorama to capture both, but it was a bit of a fizzle. Still, as with you, the experience itself was enough! Happy Easter, m'friend!
