From the Jaws of Death!

Ken: "May we get rid of these? They're all rusty!"

Me: "OMGOMGOMG! I loved those! And they're SO MUCH BETTER now that they're all rusty!"

One has to wonder how two such different mindsets came together in the first place!
Oh yes I agree with you Louise! The rust adds age and interest to these pretty lanterns! They always say opposites attract Louise so that's why you make such a great pair! Lol!

@pamknowler He makes me laugh when he can't see the beauty in weathered things! We'll forever be at odds on that account! But if that's the only fault I can find in him, I guess I'll keep him ♥ ; )
March 27th, 2016
OMG! If that's his only fault he is definitely a "keeper"! So looking forward to meeting you both! Not long now!
March 27th, 2016
@pamknowler You're so funny! Let's put it this way...several of my friends call him Saint Ken... Not just because I'm married to him, I think he's deserving. We can hardly wait to meet you as well!

The lamps look lovely weathered and rusted - both in the daylight and lit at night.
March 27th, 2016
Umm not to my liking , but it would be boring if we all liked the same things... Happy Easter
March 27th, 2016
Love it ...
March 27th, 2016
haha they look great now they are rusty indeed!
March 27th, 2016
I recently read an article on 50 things that get better with age - we can now add these candle holders and lanterns to the list. :-) A beautiful rusty capture, indeed!

I love the life patina aka rust.
March 27th, 2016
I guess you are Yin and Yang like so many long-married couples!
March 27th, 2016
Lovely lanterns. I really like the owl. I think the rust adds to them, gives them character! Wishing you and Ken a wonderful Easter.
March 27th, 2016
Now that he knows you like rust, who knows what he'll drag home. Watch out.
March 27th, 2016
And your photo illustrates how artistic they work together. Lucky rusty things to have survived for another day.
March 28th, 2016
Men!!! Definitely better rusty in my book too Louise. However, a small difference of opinion about the garden ornaments isn't too serious. Love the shot and the narrative.
March 28th, 2016
They look lovely to me! Like bronze. I think we are all have different ideas of what is good in design. Some love artistic stuff like these and others like plain and practical. What if you put on a coat of varnish so you do not touch the rust.
Fav. I love the way you share your life events in interesting analysis like this one.
March 28th, 2016
@snowy 100% I understand why these aren't to your taste! They're far-more suited to the southwest living out here! Your lovely, tastefully decorated home is no place for the likes of these...I get it! I hope you and your girls had a lovely Easter!
March 28th, 2016
@veengupta Of course we all are drawn to different things and see different beauty in them! The Japanese have a word that I love that describes things as they decay and age...they call it wabi sabi. I tend to like things going through that process, and Ken wants to paint them or throw them out! It's fun to share life events with people here, as, from around the world, we're both so different and so very alike!
March 28th, 2016
@golftragic Loved your note! Yes, garden ornaments they shall remain...to rust away into antiquity! To Veena above, I shared the Japanese word, Wabi Sabi... Personally, I embrace it!
March 28th, 2016
@tunia He's unlikely to pick up rusty things, but this is definitely not the first item about which we've had a discussion! He should have known I liked therm! Now I'll have to watch for more items I can photograph!
March 28th, 2016
@gaylewood I'd love to see that article! Of course, I could probably come up with that list myself! Thanks for your message!
March 28th, 2016
@Weezilou Ooooo, I like that term and its philosophy, may I borrow it? I love rust too, of course.
March 28th, 2016
@golftragic Borrow it?! It's something of a "national treasure notion" in Japan! I learned it years ago in art classes. I'm sure you can google it, if you haven't already! I love being able to spread that word! Enjoy it as I do!
March 28th, 2016
Ha ha. Ken clearly still has a long way to go photographically speaking! ;-) Lovely capture of your rusty friends!
March 28th, 2016
@jamibann He's teachable... Of course I've been working on it for years! He was almost doing well until this big slip-up!
March 28th, 2016
@Weezilou A work in progress! ;-)
March 28th, 2016
Glad you rescued these! I agree - the rust only adds to them! Wonderful!
March 29th, 2016
@elatedpixie really! Who wants an empty beans can on the table prior to rusting sufficiently?!
March 29th, 2016
@Weezilou exactly.
March 29th, 2016
@elatedpixie You've been very busy going through my photos! Thank you! Far less exciting than whales, but for all that, I appreciate the visit just that much more! Thanks so much :D
March 29th, 2016
@Weezilou I enjoy them almost as much though '-) the whales were definitely a treat! If we see them again this year, holy smokes! You'll have to make a trip up!
March 29th, 2016
@elatedpixie It would have to be in the next four weeks or I'll be off to pick lupines! (Early this year! ) I hope they'll converge in your neighborhood again so I can enjoy the moments through your lens!
March 29th, 2016
@Weezilou Will do!
March 29th, 2016
Great they have been rescue. Beautiful rusty
March 29th, 2016
Funny how ying and yang go so well together .... I have had that same conversation with Bob at times. Good thing is he does say before trashing things ...
