Our hawk is back, this time in clear view. When the doves disappear, we realize he's come again to the neighborhood! After checking levels (and seeing that nothing much happened to change the image) I decided to go with it SOOC & not even a crop, something I seldom do. We had the pleasure of watching him at leisure and hope you'll enjoy him again as well!
@lovesbateleurs Can you help me better identify this beauty? I've read that it's difficult to tell between Cooper's & Sharp Shined and am not positive here. I photographed his back & beautiful tail feathers as well when he turned around, so I have pictures from all directions!
@aglennc Thanks, Anita! Given his perch in the back yard, it was a singular choice! @lynnz Thank you so much, Lynn. Perhaps you see them more often out in the country, but I love looking at this one if he's not in the process of killing something! @digitalrn Thank you Rick! In the extremes we get this...and a hummingbird. The rest are all grey doves and sparrows!
@joysfocus Thanks, Joy... Sooc...it was a flat-white-cloud backdrop! I was happy with this for now, but it's filled with future possibilities! (Yah...like I have so much time!)
@pasttheirprime Thank you so much! While I hate to have him terrorizing the birds I feed, I love watching him while they hide! He was gorgeous while he lingered!
@fpmtngal I can only identify a couple of hawks, but I'm hoping Sandra checks in as she works with raptors in the St Louis area.
@Weezilou Hello! What a beauty this one is! It looks like a young Cooper's Hawk. I say young because adults have redder eyes. It looks too slight to be a Red Tail even if it was a youngster.
@lovesbateleurs Oh *Thank You* Sandra...I was hoping you'd come across this! We had the opportunity to photograph him up there for 20 minutes or more as he preened and turned...just lovely to watch! I love that we have our resident experts in so many different areas!
