January in SoCal - 80F/27C

Since the rains, the winds have picked up bringing desert warmth and pristine air. Ken ran an errand and came home to tell me he wanted to take me out for a ride and to photograph the mountains again. Sitting at home, my photo opportunities have been limited, so I might as well make the most of the beauty of this time of year as a record of what makes life here so pleasant!

The distance and atmosphere made it difficult to get sharp closeups of the trees on the mountains, but when the shirtless bike rider came into view, I knew I had the full story!
Definitely tells a story -- the bike rider makes the image (along with the snow capped peaks).

I agree with Taffy that the cyclist makes the story complete.

Beautiful view!

Wonderful shot...great composition

Just SoCal! Lovely shot. ... and not a car in sight?!
January 30th, 2017
Terrific contrast capture :)

Simply fabulous!! What a view - so glad Ken took you out to capture it!! The cyclist with no shirt on tells us how warm it is in contrast to the snowy mountains in the background. A definite Fav!!

Great storytelling shot!
January 30th, 2017
Wow....and, it must have really warmed up, thus the bicyclist with no shirt! :-)
January 30th, 2017
Such a contrast with the snow and the shirtless rider!

Graceful photograph

Beautiful

That canal was much more full of water on Thursday! Always love it when the snow capped mountains form a backdrop for the toasty weather "down here."

@stray_shooter To our minds, January is the prettiest month in Southern California! This is the whole package, isn't it?!
January 30th, 2017
Great scene, shirtless rider included.
January 30th, 2017
A beautiful storytelling capture. Great view on those amazing mountains.
January 30th, 2017
that would make a really great postcard! aces!

@summerfield You're so cute! It certainly is more pleasing to the eye than any commercial image of this "bedroom-community neighbourhood" at my back! Most cards here are of the beach towns (and why not!) but they forget this site and it's a good one!!! And no matter whom I draw, I won't forget your address : ) Ahhh, my cheerleader once again!

Wow awesome sight with the shirtless biker and snow cap mountains!
Quite the contrast Louise!

@radiogirl Thanks, Kathy! You know how I love life in NS, but January out here, when we have this, well, this is what makes it all worthwhile! (And when the girls were young ...I say on this 42nd birthday of my youngest! ... we'd spend weekends in the mountains so Ken and the girls could ski. I'd hunker down with a book, but always *always* be ready to photograph the squirrels & bluejays on the cabin deck!)

Gorgeous, glad you got out.
January 31st, 2017
Magnificent..... But WHERE did you find a "road??" without cars?? Southern CA. can be so beautiful.....
January 31st, 2017
@aglennc Well, that's the Santa Ana River Bed with a turn toward the gate off of Harbor. It was tight, and Ken dropped the car off a steep curb as we were leaving...not a happy camper, but looks like we did no significant damage!
January 31st, 2017
@Weezilou I thought it was a river bed, but couldn't figure out where. Incredible shot. That guy really "makes" it!
January 31st, 2017
Yep, you're right, the shirtless rider makes for a very appealing picture. Glad you got out and about for some fresh air. You'd be sufferering cabin fever.
January 31st, 2017
beautiful and interesting photo ... glad you got to go out and see such beautiful sights!
January 31st, 2017
@lynnz Thanks, Lynn. I thought it was really sweet of Ken to want to be sure I got to see this! It's been an excellent January, weather-wise on all accounts! If you wish to see another view, Ron @stray_shooter posted a picture taken at dusk.

Great capture! Probably don't always see snow on those mountains. Michael's Aunt and Uncle are in Dessert Hot Springs and posted some pictures of the mountains they can see too.
January 31st, 2017
@dailypix Hi Susan! (Desert Hot Springs would be a beautiful location to see the snow-covered mountains!) Forgive me that I never wrote back, but you're about to see I've been a bit "indisposed"! Feeling fine...much improved...but now I have so much to catch up on! Tried all along not to lose my pace here on 365 this month! May be time for a phone chat! Send your # again, though I'll see if I saved it!
January 31st, 2017
@Weezilou Thanks for responding. I've been completely out of the loop for a couple months. Maybe now will be better. I sent you a Christmas note. We are in a new place and so have a new number also. Let me know if you need me to resend it.

My parents had a vacation home in Palm Desert for years. We loved the views of the snow capped mountains they had.
January 31st, 2017
@jamibann It struck me that you may not have realized that this is a river channel and not the freeway! Only days ago it was half filled with water!
February 1st, 2017
so strange to see the snow on the mountains and the bike rider with his shirt off. Is this the same river you photographed full of water only recently
February 1st, 2017
@Weezilou Ahahahahahah ... I'm laughing! So right, I thought it was a freeway! I thought the central reservation was bizarre, and I SHOULD have noticed the tiny peeps on the freeway!!!!! Not to mention the total lack of traffic! Still giggling. :-)
