I have spent absolute *years* trying to get a butterfly photo in my back yard! I've had some, but nothing crisp, and few that are (to me) unusual. When I captured this one (that I've been following all weekend-to-present) I had to know what I found in the yard, and thanks to Google, there were many representations.
Now that I know how pretty the inside of the wings is, I hope it won't take as many years to get that photo, too! To those of you who accomplish this often, my hat's off to you!
Beautiful capture, Louise! Excellent focus on this mourning coat butterfly. That's a new one for me. There are soooooo many different butterflies out there...I'm always amazed every time I go online to identify a new one. I never gave it much thought before I started this project and now it seems I see a different butterfly every day. So wonderful! :-)
If you have time, I think you'd enjoy my post for today, very much 'up your alley' . . . I was so excited from my initial sighting of the unique orange bug all the way to my final online discovery of what it is and the awesome changes it goes through. :-)
You must be hoarding all of the mourning coats at your house, as I've never seen such a butterfly in these parts. Was the thrill of the hunt the true reward?
Isn't it wonderful when they actually stop long enough to catch that photo! I always find it's the beautiful ones that never settle and the plain ones who pose and shout "Me! Take a pic of Me!" A frustrating hobby but rewarding when you finally get one! I look forward to seeing the inside view! Lovely bokah too Louise! Fav!
@pamknowler haha...yes, I haven't brought him out yet (or did I?...a plain little brown thing that the girls used to catch when they were little because it would sit still so long!!! What's with that??? I've had some Monarchs and little white tizzy butterflies, but nothing settles! Thanks for the fave, m'friend! (Yes, I'm still up in the middle of the night!)
@stray_shooter You have no idea how funny your comment it! It's an inside joke around here! Don't let me get near an auction or ebay...I can't help myself, and if you want to see me "shopping", there's where the damage is done! Ken used to tease that it didn't matter what it was I was going after...it always seemed to be the thrill of the hunt and the kill! (It was...)
@pamknowler Feeling really good this week...see the doc again tomorrow for the follow-up. The butterfly I posted this afternoon got zero traction for the first several hours. My best friends must be in your time zone and Australia's because I start hearing from everyone about 11 PM! I'm about to post two photos and then I'm outta here! (That's the game plan anyway!)
@louannwarren Most amazing, I thought, was his elephant-like trunk/proboscis unlike any I've seen on a butterfly! From what I read about him, he's not rare, but I'm happy to take what I can get!
