The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Music...

This was a first for me! I'd never heard an Alphorn (much less, four of them)! Every year when the Military Tattoo is being held in Halifax, an anonymous Lunenburger arranges to bring the visiting German band to town for a concert at noon. This year's band came from the district of Bavaria in the alps, and we got to hear two pieces of music played on these...it was absolutely beautiful!

Once again, on nearly every day, there was such a wonderful presentation of music to be heard! As they play in the courtyard alongside St John's Anglican Church at noon each year, it's not the best moment for photography, but I only lament that not everyone could be there to hear for themselves!
How incredible. Can't be easy to travel with these musical instruments!

@777margo They seem so ubiquitous to that part of the world, it was a real pleasure to hear them played in Canada!

Great shot of these alphorns and their musicians. I wonder if they sound similar to a didgeridoo.

Bet it takes a lot of puff to play one of those!

@golftragic ...and on the plane you'd have to trust someone with them! They certainly won't fit in the overhead or under the seat!
