On all surfaces of significance are lovely assortments of decorative tiles, so narrative with images and some merely decorative. All were made on the island, primarily during the depression. I photographed all I could find with several ideas in mind for using them, and on our last afternoon, in the art museum, I saw a book filled with these images. Leafing through it, I think I didn't miss many!
I like the perspective of this fountain in the center of the beach-front street, about equidistant from the casino and Holly Hill House to the right on the other side of the bay. I may fill some dates in my extras albums with the tile images. No need to comment, but just for the pleasure of their assortment!
@maggiemae If you like this, you'd go nuts over the island! The tiles are wonderful, varied, and there's such an interesting story behind (the women, mostly) who made them back in the 30s! And for more that's wonderfully arty, the casino is completely done up in the Art Deco era! I'll be posting some of those soon as well! I was over-the-moon in that building!
Island so much. Haven’t been back in 38 years but your picture still looks familiar
