For our last evening at the beach, I wanted to be sure to capture the sunset, and I noted that there were more people watching than are typically out there. There it was, Sunset on Labor Day, the official close of summer. A final good-bye as the seasonal time and tide change...
It is not surprising that primitive societies had special festivals connected to the seasons. We still have feelings to this day. It was our first day of spring on September 1, and many of us call that Wattle Day. Nevertheless, we will have plenty of winter like weather still to come. After that essay - great shot.
What a glorious sunset with beautiful reflections across the beach. The bird makes the shot! I always feel sad as summer draws to a close and the days become shorter. I have learnt from Ethel @ethelperry that their first day of Spring is called Wattle day which I have not heard before. I love 365 - I learn so much!
Lovely, Louise. I agree that the bird makes the shot. “Wattle Day”, my what a title, love it, @ethelperry. I know your grands loved you spending the holiday with them this year!
@pamknowler@louannwarren Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious and you already know, but "Wattle" is a gorgeous yellow, little-puff-ball-of-a- flower that covers the wattle trees (a type of Acacia, I believe) and seems to be a harbinger of Spring "South of the Equator"... (Did I get that right, Ethel? @ethelperry )
A gorgeous sunset shot Louise and I know what you mean when it's the end of summer and we only have autumn and winter to look forward to. I actually love autumn - the colours and the smells but I don't look forward to winter that follows! Fav for this great shot
This beautiful, Louise. Yes, the official close of summer and school started the next day...but no more. Schools start up early-mid August in California but today IS the first day of school in New York. I wish I had been on the beach with you too! Fav.
Beautiful sunset. We live much further south and it's still definitely summer here, no matter what the calendar says. It won't really feel like fall until around Christmas! LOL!
@Weezilou well now that you mention it I have heard of wattle trees! Just didn’t make the connection of using the trees as harbingers and namesakes for spring, in my befuddled mind!
Hi Louise...I think about emailing you every day, then something comes up or distracts me! Are you back in Nova Scotia yet? We spent day with family...Happy Grandparents Day! :)
Hey, sweetie! Just popped by to see how you were as you have been unusually quiet..........saw some flamingos at Portobello Market at Notting Hill in London today in an antique shop. I thought of you and laughed out loud when I saw them! Sending love your way.
@casablanca Well, that's the sweetest! In this last of September, we're winding down in California, and are in Massachusetts visiting the grandkids for the present and head back to Lunenburg on Monday afternoon. Once settled again, I fully intend to return...just needed time to focus of daily life (instead of leaving Ken to do it all!) We're in good health, and yes, those water aerobics were a God-send! 12 sessions and I can really feel the difference in both endurance and balance! Thank you again for being a sweet friend and so thoughtful! See you again soon ♥ : )
Love this photo Louise. I have off the radar for a while now, but hope to get back in here. Bernie has had a rough couple of years with operations etc. he is all good & doing well now. Hope you & Ken are keeping well. xo
I came on over to do the same as Casablanca, as I thought it had been a while since we saw you. Happy to read that all is well and that you'll be returning to the 365 fold quite soon! xx
@loey5150 So sorry to hear about Bernie, Lois! Sounds like the ups and downs of my last few years, too! Just a bad case of O.L.D. (too soon for my taste!) Back on track again and heading to Lunenburg (see note above to Casablanca!) After the next round of company in October, I hope to have much more time here with my 365 Community...love and miss you all!
@jamibann You're so sweet! You have no idea how it makes my heart feel good to be missed in the same way I think of you and the circle, too! You'd laugh to know how often I reference "my 365 friend in Scotland...England...Australia...etc" as I talk to neighbours and family! Hoping you're delighted to be home again with so many good years of memories living around the world! xo ♥ : )
Hello Louise! I was worried about you as well. It has been so quiet. Glad you are feeling much better and on your way back to NS. I do hope you got my email and saw our anniversary pic. Write soon! Hugs. :)
@gardenfolk We touched down in Halifax last night, had a good sleep and came home today. Busy again, unpacking and trying to figure where to fit in the bulky winter clothes! Only "yesterday" it seemed so hot and humid! All's well...company arriving for all of Oct, so may still not be fully here, tho I'll try! As for email, I got the pic of the grandsons...or was that on 365?! Can you resend? Thanks heaps! Would love to hear from you! ♥ : )
@radiogirl Hi Kathy! What good friends I have here! We're back in Canada for the next few months and so happy to have returned! We have company-filled busy weeks ahead, but I hope to post some photos again...I have lots to share, having visited our daughter in Mass and done some home tours. You can tell I'm much better again...and hoping to keep it that way awhile! Hugs!
Fav.
wish to be there
Lovely sunset and reflections..........this is such a great time of year!
