Have we raised our cat to be as obsessed with animals that pass through as we are? (On many occasions, here and in Lunenburg, we had cats and raccoons walk right past one another...no aggressiveness, though a SMART cat recognizes the presence of the larger Alpha animal!)
And so he just watches...

Oh, those coonie feet; I love them! I've probably mentioned it before but many years ago I had a wild animal rehab license and specialized in raccoon rescue, raising many little motherless babies. One was injured in the felling of his home den so he ended up spending his entire life with us. I'll never forget the feeling of his busy feet feeling, patting, searching, all the while, his face turned the other direction, as if by not looking at his feet, he could feel things better. Softest little pads on those inquisitive feet. Lucky you, having back-porch visitors to watch.
@lyndemc Oh you know these little critters intimately! When Pam @pamknowler stayed with us in Lunenburg, she fell in love with them (as did many of our houseguests!) Currently we have 3 coming by for the kibble I set out for them @maggiemae . This one has an injury by his eye that I "fixed" for him. Another clearly was in some sort of accident with horizontal scraped cuts on his neck and a broken tail, drooping down. The third I can identify by a little dot on his ear...seems quite fit. If they can eat well every night, perhaps they'll be well soon... They're such little charmers! Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful information!
Wow! If possible, I would fav this ten times. Raccoons have such cute faces ♥ We have them in Germany, too, but I never saw one of them (except in a little private zoo). To see him together with your cat in harmony is really wonderful.
