We took a drive to the provincial capitol of Prince Edward Island for a second visit since coming up here. There was so much to photograph, I decided to show you a glimpse of the interiors of three sites on the same street. I think I was most surprised by how spacious these buildings are on this tiny province.
Top is one of three large rooms open for viewing in Province House where, from Sept 1-7, 1864, P.E.I was host to the Charlottetown Conference which resulted in the Canadian Confederation, making the provinces of Canada a unified country.
Center, next door to Province House, is a 2-story Musse d'Art/Art Gallery. On this Thanksgiving Sunday we were surprised to find it open, though we were the only visitors while there. It was interesting to watch as a new installation was being erected using the pulleys that extended to the ceiling. The finished piece was to be a lighthouse, but I don't recall the style being used to design it. (The art collection wasn't extensive, but all that we saw was quite interesting and varied.)
Bottom is the interior of the gorgeous and imposing St Dunstan's Basillica opened in 1919 and just a block down the street. There were a few more visitors in here, but few people were out sightseeing...perhaps because the season was coming to a close.
Thanks to the small scale of this province, we spent the morning seeing all of the L.M. Montgomery property before driving from Cavendish to Charlottetown for the rest of the afternoon. We got back in time to attend a Thanksgiving dinner complete with local folk music. Did I say, "Quaint"? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZJx2v72vSI
You took some beautiful panoramic shots of these interiors. I love the Basilica and the detail you were able to capture. I will need to put this location on my must see list.
@seattle I hadn't looked at the pictures in this album in a long time. PEI is absolutely charming, but a world apart from what you picture around your neighborhood! You'd have a tough time finding a unique "street" scene up there!
Looks lovely. makes me want to reread Anne of GG again.
