Every summer the town invites the German Band to come for a noontime concert in front of St. John's Anglican Church, the 2nd oldest church in Canada. While Lunenburg was a British colony, it was founded in 1754 by King George II of England who was brought up in Northern Germany. He was also Duke of Brunswick-Luneburg in Hanover, Germany, and thus, this is where the name "Lunenburg" came from. As a "Muenstermann", we fit right in!
There's nothing I can think of that would keep me from attending this concert (for free) and it's just a short walk up the street. They played marches, waltzes http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=4mqEwcRSDY8 (some favorite pieces of mine!), popular pieces like a Mama Mia medley and Theme from Star Wars and From a Distance. The gave a lovely tribute to US Independence Day by playing Stars and Stripes Forever! I bought one of their CDs and played the music on into the night...Fabulous!
Interesting history. I wondred if there was a German link. When I first started following you , I thought you holidayed in Luneberg... as a child I spent a lot of time in Germany as Dad was in the forces and stationed there post war.
