Having discovered "Crown Flowers" when we got leis on Saturday, I found and cut some, as well as a stalk of Plumeria. I love photographing bouquets, so set them on the lanai table. As soon as I took my first photo, this Hawaiian Cardinal landed and (by the time stamps), stayed 3 minutes, chirping away as I took his photo! I have some of him in focus, but they're better with him out of focus as you can still tell who he is!
I've been feeding the birds everyday, and, amazingly, these cardinals are the boldest, along with the finches. I've tried to feed the cardinals from my hand, but they'll sit just inches away and wait for me to put the food down! So this little friend has been by often and, by his song, was letting me know he'd like a treat! He certainly gave me a treat, and I saw to it that he was well-looked after, too!
@Cherrill@parisouailleurs@thresheg Thank you all for the sweet comments and faves! Enough of my followers haven't been to the Islands, so I've been trying to find the best to share each day...and keep it all different. Thank you all for letting me know I've been on the right track!
Oh no. A kittiy in Lunenburg, a hungry squirrel in CA., and now a cardinal in Hawaii. You are definitely a magnet for friendly and hungry animals. lol.
Beautiful capture and processing Great focus and dof. I wander witch country/place you like the best as you`ve been in all beautiful ones lately .
I can`t choose for any.
Beautiful shot, so cheerful with the flowers, bird and palm tree - and all those colours! I love seeing and reading about all these lovely places that 365ers live in and visit:)
@pyrrhula I would never say one place is better than another...every place has something lovely/beautiful/interesting to offer! Wherever I go, I look for the beauty around me...and of course here, it's quite easy to find!
Perhaps of interest to you, we were on the elevator the other day and a lady said she was from Canada, but her husband was from Holland. I asked him, then, to pronounce "Goes" for me, so now I know how to pronounce the name of your town :)
This is FANTASTIC. Love the colours and also that these are plants we don't see too often. When you say 'crown flowers' are you referring to the yellow and white, with a magnificent smell? We call this Frangipani, I think. Love the purple stalk too. And the cardinal in the background with all his colour too - just perfect.
@jamibann Oh, Issi, thanks so much! Yes, the Frangipani/Plumeria are the yellow and white flowers. They come in several shades including pink and almost red. The crown flowers were new to me. They were in a lei Ken bought me. I then found them blooming on a tree and I helped myself to a few stalks (shhhhhh...) When the flower opens and the petals turn under, the little "crown" is left, and it's somewhat rigid. They don't have a fragrance, but are , indeed, so unique looking. (I'm taking that lei home with me as the flowers will dry and last for years...)
@Weezilou Ah, I've never heard Frangipani being referred to as Plumeria, and I didn't know about the crown flowers at all. Thanks for the explanation. I adore the smell of Frangipani.
