While out taking some mundane photos, this little gal began to buzz around my head and then settled here for a full five minutes! In that time I took 91 photos, and her eyes were only closed in four of them...a better track record than many people! She preened and puffed up, even chirped incessantly and I caught her several times with her thread of a tongue tasting the air! So why this photo? It was the only one where the light rimmed her body down her breast, and the black behind her was so solid. To be sure this staghorn fern makes a busy background but I thought it best not to ask her to move!
Actually I gave up first when I turned in to greet Ken as he came in the house. 91 had given me plenty to chose from!
Holy cow, that's a great shot Louise! I'm not sure I've ever seen one sit still. Maybe it's one of your babies from last spring? 91 photos and one keeper - sounds about right to me!
@pamknowler haha! Good morning! No, she and I are old buds... and we see each other so often that I don't even curse a missed shot. Today was only remarkable in how long she continued to sit there for me! And she was chirping and chirping!
Wow! I am mediately thought of myself when you said you took 90 something pictures. That's what I do. What kind of camera do you have? This is amazingly clear and close.
she complements (probably should say "matches") her background remarkably. For me that might have been five minutes of picture-taking and an hour of choosing...
This is beautiful Louise. It looks like a painting with the background colours fully complimenting the hummingbird. I didn't know they could stay still that long.
Incredible and fascinating capture. 91 shots?? Were you on continuous shoot. I love that mode. Wish we'd be at the right spot at the right moment to get birdie shot. Don't seem to ever be. Is Safari Park on for the 16th?
@aglennc NOT continuous shot, Anita! I'm not even sure what setting I was using, but when she continued to sit there, I kept watching for some good moments. Once I had several, I tried to be more patient and careful. I was delighted!
Just sent a group email as I suppose you noticed. We'll arrive early on the 16th and are SO looking forward to the get together!
@Weezilou Awesome. Haven't checked my email yet, but will do shortly. Really looking forward to it. Want to gather for lunch somewhere locally afterward shoot so we can all visit? Those times have also been great fun for all....... Let me know. I'll come up with something.
@aglennc How close is Grape Park? Is there a restaurant there? I agree, I love the mealtime visits! I don't know what the park costs now, but we'd like to stay awhile to make the trip down worthwhile. I'm so glad you set the date!
