Rubber Stamp This: One Street After Another

St John's housing is so unique! Coming up from the waterfront, a number of streets in what would be considered "the historic part of town" had blocks of homes much like this with little variation but for the colours. I would love to know the background reasoning for building them in this fashion, unbroken rows of them, all nearly the same width. I would imagine they're all the same layout inside (I would love to have seen one!)

Driving around to take photos of the homes one day, we toured an early governor's home, and were told that the homes on the top of the hill, all detached single-family homes, were for the wealthier families.

There was an oil boom in Newfoundland a number of recent years ago, and the town spread rapidly, which is what we saw from the air, flying in. This is the housing that is depicted in all the local art, and it's quite distinctively St John's Newfoundland.
This reminds me of the Benefit St. area of Providence, RI where I went to college. Love the historic colors.

Wonderful colours on the houses. Don't think I could handle such close neighbours though.

Remember the song by Pete Seiger - Little boxes. Little boxes all the same. Change your title and join the song title #64

I love the colours, but wouldn't like to be that close to my neighbours. I hope they have thick walls or some kind of soundproofing :)
